E91 remote locking

Help, my E91 remote locking has stopped working. (both keys tried)

i have checked all the fuses show on fuse layout for looking. i have also checked the diversity unit. (this looks in very good condition, no moisture or anything)

My remote has not played up before, it just stopped on thursday, seemed to of happened after dropping my niece and nephew off, reason i say this as my doors auto lock when i drive, then when i stooped my nephew kept pulling the door hand while my niece done the same and i was trying to unlock on the button.

Any idea's or help would be great. thanks lee

On another (older) car we own (it does lots of short journeys), the central/remote locking not working is the first indication of the battery being low on charge - long b4 any probs starting etc. A quick charge and it all works again. Is your car's battery in good nick ?

This is a known issue with the receiver on the tailgate, a quick search will sort you out.

I do a lot of short journeys but did do a couple of 45 min runs Saturday but no change. I think my car battery in good order as everything else works fine

I have read about the receiver but it looks as good as new. Can you check this anyway. Thanks

Update

My locking still isnt working. So far i have tried the below

- Both keys
- new diversity antenna
- check fuses

Other ideas are o/s front door actuator and wiring loom in boot hing area. however i would like an idea of the sypmtons as don't want to be chasing in circles replacing everything.

From what i have read people got intermitting faults with the wiring loom fault, mine was fine then just stopped.

Please feel free to list all the fuses to check etc incase i have missed one.

Also all doors lock / unlock from the key in the door and from the button on the dashboard.

Thanks lee

Maybe no help to you but I have a friend who managed to cut open my fob and replace a couple of the micro switches when they stopped working. Then he stuck it back together. 100%.

hi lee, sorry to hear your still having probs with this, i think it fuses 56 and 57 that could need checking, the access is annoying via the glove compartent.

I heard some people disconnect the main car battery for 40 mins to reset the internal computer but i would be wary of doing this unless you researched it properly first

Had this with my E91. The receiver in the tailgate allows some water in. You need to remove the casing and look at the circuit board inside, chances are you will see that it's shorted. Get a replacement and when you put it back together use a good flexible silicone sealant on the casing. The casing has no screws to hold it together,so I cut a piece of medium density foam to exact shape and used double sided tape to hold it in place. When you refit the roof spoiler it will hold it tightly together and stop the casing opening up. Mines been fine for 3 years now.

Pull the battery for 30 mins that will reset the network/jbe/CaS etc
There will be no side effects other than having to reset the clock

Ah ok, what I'm thinking is this is a similar issue to e70 X5's where the remotes stop working.

The wiring runs through a corrugated rubber tube between the chassis and tailgate and the wiring inside over time gets stressed and can break.

It could be worth pulling it off at both ends and having a look at the wiring condition inside.Give each wire a tug and see if it breaks easily or there maybe a wiring that's is obviously broken.

I've seen this on e90 saloons also and this causes various lights to not work etc
