Front and rear mudflaps for my 320d SE was quoted at £174 fitted (inc. vat), takes 45 mins and we're booked up till end May, the BMW service lady said. Seems expensive and a long time to wait. Easy to fit myself?

Yes should be very simple, usually easier if you have a jack and can get the wheel off ok.

Fronts are easy, you can do them with just full lock and no need to remove the wheels, the rears you really have to remove the wheels to get access to the screws. Most if not all of the screws and holes are already existing.

The quote seems about right as they will allow an hour to fit a set so the labour and mudflaps will come out at that figure with the VAT.

Are you guys doing Welsh rally stages or what? Never had mudflaps on a car and never suffered gravel rash or stone chips as a result

Horse for courses though

Love Glasgow. Wonderful friendly people. Great places to eat. Stay at Langs Hotel. Excellent hot chocolate at night before bedtime.

Now I see. They use the gravel tracks for a dump so that they don't graze in their own pooh. Hmmm, smart sheep.

Talking about keeping cars clean, took my car to BMW Berry Chiswick (West London) and they did a fab job of cleaning and polishing. 5 months of gathering dirt. Took 3 hours this morning. All FOC. They follow a BMW reommended procedure for this. Most impressed.

So now it is peeing with rain and the Cherry Blossom petals are flying all over the place and getting stuck to the bodywork. Can't win in Blighty.

Why did BMW Chiswick clean the car?

I went to have my Mud Flaps installed on Long Island. They wanted 320 dollars just to install it. I said forget it. This is a lease.

They look terrible on any car, I put strips of expel clear film on the edge of my skirts and rear bumper where the gravel would hit it more likely

They looked great on my dads Ford Cortina in 1982 , but seriously on a BMW?

How about a green windscreen tint too with the names Del and Raquel? Would finish off the car perfectly

Disagree. They look fine and add to the protection. The roads are made from stone, you don't need to go on dirt tracks.

You look like a right old duffer with mud flaps, don't forget the box of Kleenex for the rear parcel shelf, a tartan travel blanket for the back seat and slap some Werthers originals in the arm rest cubby while you're at it too

You forgot the anti-static strap attached to the rear bumper that drags along the road. Oh and while we're there:
- Some fluorescent orange tape on the boot.
- Those big plastic door guards with built-in reflectors.
- Some wind deflectors for the front-windows.
- Remove the alloys and replace with steel wheels and plastic hubcaps secured with cable-ties.
- Oh what the heck, why not get some cross-ply tyres and get the rear brakes replaced with drums.
- And to cap it all, a brown vinyl roof and an after-market tilt/lift-out sunroof.

That lot should certainly make for a unique F30

I was remiss in forgetting those other items, you are right Rob

I'd also suggest a tow bar and caravan mirrors

You've covered most of it except: The Blue Badge (honestly obtained) + reading glasses (left on the dashboard) to read the speedo and check which buttons to press.
