Programming your own ECU
With all the threads on SW version in a car forum, clearly things have changed for people who want to tweak and adjust their cars. No longer can a person take a degree of timing here or there with a wrench.
So the question is.... What would I need in terms of hardware to gain access to my ECU? I see the Dinan programmer and the hardware they use is generic and readily accessible. As far as I can tell, I need any type of computer with an RS232 serial port (or an USB enabled computer and a USB-to-RS232 converter). Some wire that connects the DB9 / RS232 port to the Car's OBD / CAN port. Anyone have part numbers for the CAN cable or access to software that would allow us to look at the ECU? I would like to just see what is going on and play with random settings. I can get my hands on almost any hardware.....

maybe we can program our own alarm instead of getting rape from dealer on both end to not only buy the alarm and to have them program it.
