How Do You Know If Ball Joints Are Bad?? Bad Bad Roads... >.<

Hi I moved to Regina.

WORST ROADS I HAVE EVER SEEN..

where I park, it is really snowy/icy, and people driving thru it left a track in the ice

my car gets stuck,

but yesterday I was trying to park, and my front end dipped into the track, and it felt like my front right tire took a beating

when I drive the car is perfectly fine.. but I am concerned I damaged a ball joint (OCD)

how hard is it to damage one?

the roads here are also really really bad lots of potholes which i try to avoid but you cant avoid them all

also is it bad to park on an uneven surface?

thanks

Well it's not THAT hard to damage one but they are pretty robust. If nothing is different in the steering or ride then I personally wouldn't worry about it. Usually a toasted ball joint makes a clunking, popping or rattle noise.

when would it make that noise?

when I hit a bump correct? because I think my mom's 3 series (2004) had that problem..

also is it true that if the ball joint is bad, under braking, the steering wheel would turn slightly towards that direction?

To answer your question you take a pair of channel locks and squeeze the ball joint with the jaws on top and botton. Any movement, repeat any movement indicates they are bad...

Yeah bumps will bring out ball joint sounds, as will turning full lock sometimes. But if the car is driving perfectly fine then I really wouldn't worry about them.
