My turn for some damage!
Walking back to the car today, I noticed something behind my lower front grill. Closer inspection revealed that a large stone has smashed through the lower grill and is now trapped inside. Fortunately, whilst impacting the cooler behind, it does not appear to have punctured it or damaged the paintwork.
Has anybody any experience in removing the lower grill? It does appear to be separate to the brake cooling ducts, but I'm not sure if the removal of the grill will involve the removal of the front bumper. If so, it will be a dealer job! |

It's probably not too complicated.
Check out this thread where the OP added some protective meshing... http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=819472

I'm sure someone posted an earlier thread regarding this.
They gave links for protection. Sorry i do not know how to link. Check search, although i find that can be a bit of a pain. Last edited by HiBee; 04-04-2013 at 03:05 PM.. |

Thanks all.
The person who added the mesh behind the grill unfortunately did not post a description of how they completed the work. Having looked at the bumper removal guide posted in the F30DIY and coding forum, I suspect that will be the only way. I'll wait a week until the weather (hopefully) warms up and will then get under the front to take a closer look. In the meantime, I'll order a new grill. |

it was me, the bottom grill mesh I added was accessed by taking out the kidney grills you can get your arm down in front of the radiator, it is fairly easy to do, the mesh is chipped to hell already, replacing that section will properly be easier with the bumper removed

I've found the part number and will place an order with my dealer for the grill. Your additional mesh protection does make sense - the intercooler is very exposed to stone damage. I think I was lucky |
