B&O Light Option???

Messing with all the settings on the iDrive system and under lighting I noticed the B&O light option of: ON, OFF and REDUCED WHILE DRIVING.

I took my car out at night for the first time tonight and couldn't tell what the heck this option was changing?

Any help would be appreciated... I know it's silly but me and my boys were cracking up tonight trying to find this B&O light thing and we are all losing sleep over this stupid mystery.

Thx

As of right now you can't change the intensity of the B&O lights.
But you can see them (very faintly), there's a little LED on the lower part of
the corner speaker (if you turn on the B&O light) and look from below upwards to the lower
part of the door tweeter you'll see it, the other light is in the center speaker and it is very faintly
visible when it's open (you probably can best see it from the outside when it's dark)
There's an official bulletin by BMW to let dealers know about the B&O lights and given the wording
there could be the chance of new/additional settings at some point (introduced via new sw updates)

Below is a picture of the backside of the tweeter with the LED light/lead

Thank you very much JMH...

I guess our nights in Southern California aren't dark enough to see this dim light... Funny thing is one of my boys kept arguing the fact he saw something in the tweeter and my other son and I kept saying he was smoking something... I guess he was right.

Thanks again

Interestingly enough the lighting changes DO work on the F12 M6. Looks as if it was intentionally left off for the M5.

I have played with this quite a bit. I was expecting a nice LED glow, but what you get is a very faint light. It is difficult to see but when you compare to off, it is definitely there!

Dude! I never noticed the light in the tweeters before now! Only noticed the center dash speaker light. The things you learn on the board! Lol.

my understanding is that BMW has a software fix for this which will be rolled out soon.

Something about a bear in the woods comes to mind when I read about "the light in the speaker box that you can't see till you turn it off."

Just saying...

I was just thinking today, what is the point of the "Reduce While Driving" option for the light when you can barely even see it!
I noticed the light on the center speaker today, and I thought the tweeters didn't have a light, guess I will have to look a little harder.

There have been posts on this in the general F10 forum. Basically there is a software problem which means all F10s are stuck in the reduced light mode all the time. Apparently BMW has promised a fix by the summer. Maybe worth asking your dealer.

Personally I can see the lights even on the tweeters, and even with the Miami city lights. It is much more evident though when you are driving in the deep countryside.

the current voltage supplied to the tweeters in the doors is 0.5 volt ... (it is supplied by the B&O amp). There's a bulletin about the topic from BMW , but no firm commitment/schedule yet by BMW for a "fix" or enhancement.
I'll work around it some other way , once the parts are in I'll provide an update

B&O Light Option

I heard from my dealer that there will be a software update soon - probably June - that will brighten the lights.
