To '13' or not to '13'
So i get a call from my dealers today..
To cut a long story short, my new F31 has been in their car park for over 3 weeks now, whilst a series of cock ups have been made trying to transfer my plate across from my 1er. Somewhere along the line it appears all the paperwork has disappeared in the DVLA's filing system and no one knows where its is. It could get registered today, or it could be weeks, no one can say. Easter is coming up, and the dealers figures in March are closing. So the dealers want it gone, and i want my car.. it was originally due in feb, so its late anyway. So they have suggested i collect the car tomorrow, it will get registered on a 13 and we can do a normal transfer at a later date. They have offered to pay any costs i get particularly as i know my insurance has a quite big admin cost for plate and vehicle changes and of course i will need to but a new set of plates, which i guess will be another £60 or so.. But my car will have '13' on it! and we are going on a 1000 mile round trip Monday as well! I wouldn't say i'm a superstitious person, but i always avoid '13'. What do i do!! |

You can get it registered under a 62 plate to avoid the 13....DVLA sanctioned option????
If it is leased and you'll never actually own it, it would make no difference so go for it. If you are keeping it, maybe the '62 plate but actually is a 13' might be more difficult to explain/ lower it's value??? Last edited by NISFAN; 03-26-2013 at 06:55 AM.. |

Get the 13 plate - they're paying hte costs to get your reg back on later. Then you can keep the 13 plate and whip it back on when you get rid of the car down the line. DVLA always reassign the old plate when you retain your private one.
and you'll sell it as a 13 plate, rather than a 62, which will carry the stigma of being 6 months older than it is.

Hi Mate, first of all congrats on the new car....personally i would say get it collected with the 13 plate and there is nothing wrong with the number 13 as is the case with number 1 or 2.
The second thing is by registering the car with your personal number will result you in going thru the trouble at the end of the lease to get a age related plate which will be again a 13 plate and get it returned(if you are on lease or if you are selling at a later point of time). If the dealer is doing the payment you incur for the plate transfer with the insurance admin fees i would say go ahead and get it done so that you can behind the wheels at the earliest also once the car is there with the PDI done if its me i wouldnt leave the car there at the dealer as to avoid any parking dings and all unless they leave it inside the showroom which again will be like new customers being shown your car as a demo one with all the little scratches being picked. If you have any local DVLA office after your holidays(by that time your 13 plate V5C also will be with you to give it to the local office) its quick them to have the new tax disc and entitlement to assign to the car to have it running on your personal plate and you can straight away do it and the V5C will come within 2 weeks. Hope you will post the pics before you leave on holidays All the best

Has anyone on here done it? I'm not superstitious by any means but when I come to sell I don't want to put the numpties off. Then again those same people would probably find it very difficult to understand that my 62 plate car was actually a 2013 car, in which case they wouldn't want to buy it anyway! |

I would think the 62 plate on a newer car would have more of a negative effect, but then I am not superstitious. |

Do you think that it's been so long that you actually feel scared to get the car?

quite probably!!! it has been a longtime coming, and its a complicated drawn out process as it involves getting money agreed from my company towards it (and the wife agreeing the rest!!!)....
i sorted the agreement to get the car way back in October, the spec was sorted and i had final quotes from early December so the car really should have been ordered way before xmas.. My order was eventually placed mid January. so i have been waiting a while.. just waiting for the dealers to confirm still. i bet this saga is not over yet! |

grrrr..
so i waited till 4:45, knowing the sales person goes at 5pm, i cracked and had to phone for an update.. now it seems that Swansea are half way through the registration, but will not be able to post out until tomorrow.. meaning no way the tax disk will be at the dealers until Thursday (which i cant do) so i cant pick up until after Easter. arghh!! |

apparently as its a new reg straight to a cherished plate then Swansea have to print it on site.. They are hoping that it can be printed and collected from Wimbledon.

I have a "13" plate and I honestly don't give a stuff about any supersticious nonsense. Last few cars i've had i've had some bad luck with various damage, punctures etc sometimes within the first few hundred miles of ownership - i'm hoping 13 can finally be a lucky one for me! Must admit that so far this is just about the first new car i've had that hasn't had to go back immediately for some minor adjustment or other. Loving it.

Not far off then. I ask the dealership to email me my choices - more to avoid what I don't want than specify what I do, but I was delighted to get WRC.
