Finally, BMS got the N20 on the dyno with crappy 91 pump gas.

A few observations:

1) Boost is as much as 7psi over factory down low and as little as 3psi over factory up top. Compared to the Stage1 which runs 3psi over factory down low and tapers up top to as little as 1-2psi over factory.
2) These Stage2 boost levels are aggressive enough to feel the difference over Stage1 but not so aggressive that reliability becomes compromised.
3) We'll explore higher pump gas boost levels for use with bolt on parts like downpipe & intercooler down the road.
4) This is using map 1 on the JB4.
5) The factory tuning and Stage1 runs were done on a different day, but with the same vehicle, dyno, and fuel, with similar weather.
6) I expect good 93 octane with no other changes will boost the Stage2 numbers 5-8hp.

So looks like a tuned 328 matches a stock 335. Not bad for a 400 dollar tune. If you truly were happy with 300 crank hp and definetly did not want anymore than the 328 with a tune is the way to go.

However it is very unlikely anyone who would be buying a tune would be someone who would not want more and more power vs someone who buys a stock car and is content with it and does not get it tuned.

Therefore the guy that buys the 328 and tunes it would probably tune the 335 if they could afford it and therefore the difference in hp between tuned 328 and tuned 335 remains large.

Still nice if you have a 328 to match stock 335 performance!

Would not consider 91 crappy! Are these bms tunes based only on the grade of fuel? Truly BS if you base the hp/TQ highly on the fuel...... then call it a fuel enhancement performance... not a performance tune.

I totally agree about the low grade fuel.

We are very fortunate to have an abundance of your equivalent of 93-94AKI here in Australia. Non Ethanol 98RON.

To me it looks as though the tune works both ways. It's a performance tune AND works better with higher quality fuel.

Looking at the S2 figures with 91AKI, the car still perfumed considerably better than stock, Stage 1 & 91, so there's your performance enhancement. Although it has yet to be proven (a formality) the same S2 with 93/94AKI (98RON) should (read will) perform with improved results, based on S1 figures.

So the BMS N20 piggyback tune is both a performance and fuel grade enhancement tune. The best of both worlds!!

Then we have even better results with the ER cat free down pipe - albeit pretty much illegal on the street. So we need yet another tune classification for replacement parts.

Honestly, shit I am happy with those results! Not bad at all using 91 fuel, because I personally still am not lowering my fuel grade down to 85 man. The car wasn't designed to take that kind of fuel. Minimum 89. Plus, very hard to find 85 in CA. Almost impossible. But anyways the BMS stage 2 with 91 fuel still kicks ass in my books! I am happy with that!

Mike, when does this tune come out? And do you have an estimate of how much it will cost?

85 is not the octane rating, just means it has up to 85% ethanol.

ohhhh ok, I hate e85...I would rather spend $15 a gallon on C16 then to have another injector clog and melt a piston from running lean.

91 octane is the lowest grade supported and its not suggested unless you happen to be stuck with it in the West coast states. They suggest using 93 octane for all their performance tunes. Higher octane allows a boosted motor to operate more efficiently with a greater margin of safety against engine knock.

It actually is quite an upgrade on stock 335i performance, as the 335i is a couple hundred pounds heavier and the 328i tune gives you a slight edge on 335i numbers.

It's a no-brainer for me. Same numbers as a 335i but 150 pounds lighter.

I had one of my FIC 2150s junk up after running E85 for 6 months and one day at the track the cylinder with the junked up injector went so lean at 37psi it melted the piston and lost compression. FIC flow tested the injectors and told me the E85 caused the junk up. This has happened to many people on the EvoM forums.
