Zaino on Zymol?

What happens if I layer one on top of the other?

Nothing.......There really would be no reason for it due to the fact that you already have a base coat of the first wax you applied. The second really won't do anything for the appearance but will add an extra coat of wax.

I don't think the Zaino will adhere properly. Zaino is a polish, not a wax.

Before applying it, Zaino recommends washing the car with Dawn or another detergent that will remove any existing wax.

Zaino only (nothing under it) if you would like you can top it with a carnuba paste wax, i do it often only problem is you need to strip the wax down before you reapply zaino.

.
Zaino, and other polishes, are designed to bond to the clear coat of the car and hence will last much longer than a wax that is simply sitting on the paint. If you layer Zaino OVER Zymol or any other wax it has nothing to bond to and will only last as long as the bottom layer (typically about 1 month for most waxes).

Thanks for the replies

Did the Dawn thing, took off the Xymol, and am quite pleased with the first layer.

But...if Zaino is a polish, do I need something else on top of layers two and three?

Second layer...looks pretty much the same

Interesting how, even w/zfx, the stuff seemed to 'set' overnight.

No just add more Zaino... The third and then subsequent layers really add to the look (I have 5 on mine before the winter). After 3 layers it looked good, but not like WOW.. After I put the 4th and 5th layers on (a week later) and topped it with some Z8, my wife saw the car in the garage and said "WOW look at that reflection!!"

I re-read the post.. Do you mean if you need to need to put anything "between" the layers? You should use some Z6 between the layers to make sure everything from the previous layer is set and there is not dirt, etc there. Also, with the zfx you can put up to three layers on the car in 24 hours (with Z6 between them).

Yes it does setup a little more over the next 24 hours... It's just the nature of the polymer compound in zanio.

Thanks for that

I did not purchase the z6.
Am I wasting effort?
My wife already accuses me of becoming anal about this.

Do I need to add zfx for a 3rd coat if it is to sit overnight?

You are nowhere near anal about it. I spend 12 hours working on the car the first weekend I got it, plus another 4 the next weekend. That includes wash, clay, polish, 5 total coats of Zaino, 3 coats of wheel sealent (which REALLY works to keep the brake dust down), etc. You are no where near anal about it :rocks:. As for the wife, after a nice dinner and some jewelry and/or flowers she seems to completely forget about everything...

As for the Z6, I'm not sure how it works without using it. Never tried it. I just followed the instruction Sal had on the website.

You don't need it, but if you have it you might as well use it since it will only last so long (somewhere near 18months according to the website). With the ZFX, the layer of Z2 will dry quicker and be easier, much easier to buff off.

Just spoke with Sal Zaino

...Imagine that. He answers his phone and all pertinent questions.

Says I can use Z2 alone if it sits overnight.

Also says the z8 spray makes the thing shine even better.

Finally, he says if you stand back five feet from the stuff and see it after its applied, you put on too much.

Man...it's like talking to a rock star.

You can just use Zaino Z2pro on the wheels also, alot of people do. I bough some PoorBoys Wheel Sealent and put 3 coats of that on them. This seems to not allow much of the brake dust to actually stick to the wheels and then what does simply wipes off with a little bit of water... It got a number of good reviews from people over on the autopia forum, some even said it was better and keeping the dust from getting on the wheels than Zanio, so I figured what the heck.

yeah

Got two coats, already.
May top those off with turtle wax.
Maybe more z-2...but yes, quite effective.
Zymol did equally well, I might add.
Thanks.
