Cigarette Lighter / Car Charger Not Working - E92

Hi. My Cigarette Lighter/Car Charger does not seem to work. The obvious thing to check first was the fuse which was actually broken hence I replaced it, however both charging slots (under radio and under armrest) still do not work, any suggestions?

Much appreciated

well I learnt today that the car has to be running for these to work... key in, but not running doesn't power the cig lighters.

Just a consideration in your testing

You can get them working by inserting key then pressing stop/start without the brake pressed (auto) / clutch pressed (manual). This is ignition on but engine doesn't start. You get several bongs warning you the ignition is on which is a touch annoying. I use this mode for pumping up tyres etc.

what is it your trying to get working? an actual push in cigarette lighter that came with the car or an aftermarket usb charger type device?

I bought a griffin double usb cigarette adapter and found it didn't work in my e90. Worked fine in our 2012 golf however. Figured out it was to short to make the bottom connection. Bought a different brand one, plugged it in... bingo!

I don't have any ideas of what it could be if you have fixed the fuse other than to get an alt meter on it and see if there is any current to it at all when the car is running.

If it is dead then your looking at wiring somewhere

No am just trying to plug my blackberry charger in. To be honest when I push the cigerette light down it doesnt stick. Perhaps the charger cant reach the bottom as you said, Ill try the amp test I guess, thanks mate!

Thanks! Mine in the armrest stopped working nearly 2 years ago, although the front one is fine and after checking all the fuses I gave up on it. Just given my adapter an extra big shove with my thumb and it works fine.
