I can imagine the front end from this pic, I think it will look good, a lot more like the current M than the current 3.0. I am not sure about the sides. That line in the cut out on the door showing a body contour that curves down looks funky. Clearly it will be folding tin top and I think that will suck. I like to put crap in my boot and go off for a weekend with the top DOWN! What are they thinking?

That looks like a soft-top to me?

Not really liking the look tbh - but I'll save proper judgement until the finished car is released.

That would be the next logical progression. The Z4 engine bay was clearly desigend to handle much larger [read more powerful] power plants similar to the Z8 which came with the early e39 M5 V8 motor. And someone has already put a current M5 v10 in a Z4 so following that logic, BMW had intended to give the car more power over time from the get go. The next Z4M will likely have the new V8 from the M3 while the replacement for the 3.0si would logically be the twin turbo from the 335i.

So yes, I wouldn't be surprised if that was indeed an intercooler peeking out.

The Z4 engine bay is designed to handle a DOHC inline 6 at a 60 degrees angle, which means it's big enough to handle anything from an inline 4, inline 5, v-8, v-10, and v-12 configurations. It doesn't mean BMW designed the Z4 to handle anything more than what it's got. It just means, ANY BMW designed to take the inline 6 engine can accommodate virtually any engine configuration.

You can put any of the engines BMW currently makes in ANY of the BMW line-up. The simple fact that any BMW built must be made to accommodate an inline 6 dictates that.

I do think these are the best pics that give us a hint of what the proportions and basic shape of the car will be.

There haven't been any new pictures of this car in quite a while. What's up with that? When will this thing be shown at a car show, anyone have an idea of the timing?

I understand that there will be the choice of either hard or soft top for the next generation Z4.

I have seen all the spy shots under camo but this photochop is kinda cool. As mentioned in other posts, I like the side gills better than the round blinkers/roundels we have. Seems like Vorsteiner could come up with a front 1/4 panel replacement for our cars, I bet they would sell like hotcakes if it looked like this!
