Bay Area Clutch Swap Shop
Anyone have a reasonably economic recommendation on a shop to do a clutch swap for a 335i? I keep getting quoted around $1200 with me supplying the parts. That seems excessive for a ~4hr job.

Did you try calling Sonic MS in Mountain View or Revolution Auto in Vallejo. If they can't do it than try going to the Norcal Auto List thread.

FFTEC did mine and it was less than 1200 dollars for labor, call them up. Also they have done a TON of these clutch jobs and they can get your stock dual mass fly wheel resurfaced if you plan on re-using it.

I think $800 is on the edge of reasonable for a clutch swap. In other areas its usually around $400-500 for this platform. Was it a lot less than $1200 or only a little? I am ditching the DMFW immediately for obvious reasons, so no worries there. |

Give SpeedElement in San Jose a call or Performance Technic in Pleasanton.

This shop:
http://www.yelp.com/biz/swift-auto-tech-san-francisco Is willing to do the work for $520. That is more reasonable and what I think to be a fair price for the work. Got really sick of being quoted $1200 for the work and being explained why it costs that much like I am some kind of retard. Typical speed shop BS. That's the Bay Area for you. I will be dropping it off Monday. |

I may need a new clutch soon but I'm in the south bay area. (socal). $520 for labor is rediculously cheap! I don't think I can find a shop down here for anywhere near that price unless someone has a clue?

I believe Bavarian Professionals in Berkeley charges $130/hour. Try them: http://www.bavpros.com/

If this shop does a good job (all reviews 5 star on yelp), I will give him $600. I don't mind paying a just price for the work, I just feel raw about $1000+ for this. |

I don't recall the actual Labor rate fro FFTEC, but I didn't mind paying a premium to make sure it was done right and if it wasn't done right I knew they would do it right. Also it was one of few shops that could re-surface my Stock DMFW, since you are not re-using yours, you could take your chances with other shops.
Part of the reason why shops in Norcal cost a lot more than other parts of the country is that both Rent and Labor costs are more here due to crazy housing costs. Just my 2 cents.
