Dyno Run. '06 e90 325i 6MT, Graph & Pictures

Here is the dyno that was done today by vibrant. Completely stock BMW 325i, same vehicle that pulled a 14.7 in the 1/4 mile.

201 whp
182 wtq

Very impressive numbers for a stock BMW.

Doesn't 201 whp seem too high? The 325 is 215 bhp and that would mean only 14 hp lost through the drivetrain?

215 horsepower means that all the motors are guaranteed at least that amount, and some will have more just due to normal variations. Also, BMW may have delibrately underrepresented the horsepower a smidgen, so 201 sounds accurate.

also take into consideration that the engine will not produce full power until it is fully broken in. on my e46, it really started to shine around 20,000 to 30,000 miles. sadly, the lease was up right around this time!

201/215 = 6.5% drivetrain losses.

This is pretty much in line with the previous E46. BMW manuals and drivetrains are quite efficient!

So that means the E90 330i should be around
93.5% x 255 = 238hp at the wheels!

Compare that estimate with IS350. Assuming a conservative and most likely auto tranny loss of around 15%:
85% x 306 = 260hp at the wheels.

Considering that stock 325i have to tested to be only slightly slower 0-60 and 1/4 verses the 330i, people have speculated that BMW have purposely advertised lower hp and torque rating for the 325i. Remember the only powertrain differences between the two models in North America, are the intake system and the engine software.

If your theory is correct, then it is beginning to make sense regarding the much-rumored 2007 328/335 models that will replace the current 325/330.

Any Dyno runs on the real 2.5L engine? Then now, we can compare.

looks bad to me to have those metal hooks tied down on your nice soft aluminum control arms

you should have an alignment check as they may be bent now
(aluminum suspension is also why you can't just tow a BMW using standard methods)

tctic - I'd like to see the torque curve of the 323i, too. This engine's 3750 torque peak is a full 1000rpm higher than the 325/330, and I wonder what's available at, say, 2000rpm? We KNOW that the 330i has useful torque from, at least, 2750 to 7000rpm. I don't even know what the 323i redlines at, but the hp peak is at 5750.

I think that, as a percentage, drivetrain losses for a 323 would be greater. Shaving 5 lbs off each drive wheel, with some lightweight rims, would benefit this car especially, across the entire powerband.

No. It's on a North American 325i, which has a detuned 3.0 L engine.

Personally I don't believe to the most of dyno results.
Because the calibration of these kinds of dyno machines are really important. Also who made the calibration & Is he sufficient to do the calibration ?

It's normal to obtain less Hp (max. 10) but not a %15 loss

I know in NA, the 325i has a detuned 3.0L engine. But since the 'real 2.5L' outside of NA are quoted the same HP/Torque numbers by BMW. I was interested in seeing and comparing the 3.0L engine 325i vs. 2.5L engine 325i.
