F10 M5 vs. W212 E63 AMG, need some input.

I haven't had a chance to test-drive the W212 E63 AMG yet, and I was wondering how it compares to the F10 M5 in terms of fuel consumption and passenger ride quality.

If you want to test drive the E63AMG, why don't you wait for the LCI with AWD which is due out next 2013 (prob. Fall).

I do noticed there are lot more E63AMG owners have switched out to the F10 M5 when it was released this past summer.

I have had extended time in the new e63 Amg with the performance package. My cousin just bought one a few months ago. I actually drove it before buying the M5. It is an amazing car. I like it as much as the M5. I actually got to push the E63 because the weather was nicer a few months back. I think it sounds much better than my M5 to be honest. The torque is ridiculous especially off boost. The sport plus mode is excellent in auto mode. It shifts the way you think it should. I was really impressed. I owned an E55 in 2001. AMG has really come a long way. I went with the M5 because I am more of a BMW M fan. I think the M5 will probably be a sharper handling car once I get it broken in. I drove the AMG when it had about 4000 miles on it. I have not driven the E63 without the performance package. Overall it is an excellent car. It looks even more stealth than the M5. You can't go wrong with either car.

It all comes down to image. What do you picture yourself in? Performance wise, Merc, BMW, Audi, Cadillac are all getting pretty close.

Drive them both and decide. They are comparable. These are not cars I would take to the track anyway. As fast practical saloons, they are both great imo.

Certainly the M5 isn't a track ready car, but wouldn't you have fun sliding it around the track and comparing the times to other cars in its same general category? I live not far from Grattan Raceway in Michigan and happened to read the Car and Driver write up of the comparison between the ZL1 Camaro and GT500 Mustang, and couldn't help wondering how the M5 would compare. Not really a good track for a big, high horsepower car, but fun nonetheless.

You're right, there is a lot of potential there, it just remains to be seen how well MB does with the implementation.

For an M + xdrive BMW already offers two capable models (X5M & X6M)..
All the other Ms should remain RWD...
Related to track times/ track fun, M5 with CCB will be a little bit better
E Class AMG is "more show than go"!
