Are you looking at a used ///M3 ?

Is your interest re VIN number history related or what options the car you are looking at has?

BTW I highly recommend Bud's BMW in Oakville

I wouldn't rely solely on CarFax....

Better do a PPI and run the VIN at a BMW dealer to check the service history.

Hope it is a good price and a one time owner also not having seen the track would be nice. I recommend you check all costs before importing from the US like

Transport
Duty
Upgrade to certify as a Canadian car
Check brake wear or first job in Canada will be a brake job

I know US prices are more atractive, however, one needs to take into account all the costs.

Perhaps you check out the car yourself first after the dealership let you see the service history or find one of the Chicago members here to check it out for you. Then I believe in the German saying "Selpst ist Der Mann" translation "best do it yourself" perhaps that trip to Chicago is the best plan.

Good luck to you!

PS. You most likely know all about this ... Just saying in case you do not

Hi thank you for the heads up,

I have done a bit of research and I agree with you on obtaining all costs pertaining to the Import of the vehicle.

I do plan on taking a trip to Chicago prior to formally purchasing the vehicle, and also plan to do a PPI as well.

I just was inquiring to ensure the carfax is correct.

If you wish to know the deal I have no problems sharing them with you thru a pm. I would love to support a local dealer. But the differential In costs are too much. It is thru a private dealer. That's why I am a little extra cautious.

Appreciate your help.

Per the carfax its a one owner car.

How would you check if the car has been tracked or not?

Just my two cents, and a note of caution. Carfax does not have all of the details. I put a $32,000 accident on my 2010 E92 through my insurance and repaired at my dealer and it never showed up on the Carfax... I agree with what others have said that you need to check with the local dealer as well as another form of history evaluation.

I agree with you, i do plan on doing a PPI thru Patrick BMW in Chicago. So far the private dealer has been great. Has been very open with me. Again i do plan on seeing the car my self this week.

I think the only way for the accident to appear on the carfax is when the car is totaled and the insurance issued a salvaged title. I think?! But that might not always be true.

That shouldn't EVER be true. Every single incident where insurance is involved should show on Carfax. I pull many Carfaxes at my dealership. They'll range from "minor rear bumper impact with insignificant/cosmetic damage" to "vehicle was involved in rear end collision", etc.

Sometimes things do slip through the cracks though, like Bandido said. I'd cover all approaches. Do a carfax and have your own mechanic examine it, as well as a VIN inquiry at the BMW dealership.

Thanks for all the help guys, I got the carfax.

Heres the scoop, wanted your take on it. I did exactly as some of you mentioned. Got the car fax and traced it back to the BMW Dealer where it was serviced. The car had nothing note worthy to worry about. Was in at the dealer for typical maintenance. Heres where im a bit concerned. The dealer (Passport BMW in washington) told me that the car was low mileage. The last service they did was in August of 2012. The odometer had about 16K Miles on it (this is a 2008 E90 M3). So the car was not driven much.

However, the private dealer has it listed at 46K Miles. So im thinking how the heck does someone drive a car 30K Miles in less than 5 Months.

The private dealer is sure the mileage is at 46K Miles. Whats your guys take on it?
