Either use INPA to read dme version or physically take a look at the dme which will have the dme version and serial numbers

INPA would make sense. I don't think you could physically look at it and tell because the DME software version gets updated. I am looking for what DEM software version I am running. Sorry, I should have been more clear.

Oh I thought you meant the DME module itself. Lol. Yeah INPA would be able to tell you all you need to know about software version. It can also tell you the software level of the individual modules on the car.

I was told I have a MSD81. Is that what you mean?

I remember back in the day I asked the rude a** SA about what software version I have, and the mofo said, "Stop going on the internet. There is a lot of bad information out there." LOL A**h*** still worked at the dealer when I was there a year ago, only it looked like he gained 30-40 lbs.

MSD80 is early 335i; up to 02/2008, MSD81 after that.
PPK can be installed in the MSD81 but not the MSD80.
MSD81 can store codes that might indicate a piggyback tune. The MSD80 cannot as far as I know.

My car, production 2/2008 has the MSD81 so those dates are not gospel but a rough indicator of the crossover.
