Question to all 325i manual owners
Trying to check if a few things on my 325i are normal or not. If not I can still get them fixed under motorplan so not to worry:
Car is a 2007 325i manual (the 2.5L, 250nm N52N) - Fuel consumption: mine is sitting on 10.5l/km (22.40 MPG) in combined driving while trying to save fuel without heavy acceleration etc. This seems a bit high compared to some other E90s and E60s with 2.5l engines I have driven - The car seems a bit jerky in 2nd gear below 2000rpm or 35km/h (21.74mph). I have to shift down into first below 20km/h (12.42mph) because the car becomes very jumpy. In my old E85 2.5i manual I could easily sit in traffic going even 15km/h (9.3mph) while staying in 2nd without having to downshift. Are these things normal for the car or should I get it checked out? |

I get about the same figures for my home-work commute. Highway is fine @ 7.0-7.4l/100km, but as soon as I get off and drive through the city with a lot of traffic lights consumption averages to 10.4L/100km
So I guess this is not to strange... my e46 did about 9.6l/100km combined except consumption in the highway was higher than the e91 (5mt vs 6mt) The 174/190bhp N52b25 versions are more economical as well. The jerky/stuttering part. Only noticing when doing lots of short trips (a couple of <1km start/stop actions) so the engine doesn't even get to its operating temperature. Driving it like its meant to be driven and everything clogging the exhaust gets cleaned :-) The car runs noticeably smoother after some longer trips and some 'spirited driving'. |

I get 25mpg out of my e92, mixed city/motorway driving.
There's a quite a big hesitation just between 1500 and 2000 rpm too when it's cold which makes it seem a little jerky some times too. |

I get about 32 mpg (uk) out of my 325i. (I have the 3.0L unit tho)
I too find being smooth in 2nd harder than in any other car. Apparently its all the fault of the CDV (so I keep telling myself!) Sometimes I have a really smooth drive, and I think for me it has just been being extra smooth with the clutch and just give a bit more revs then you would any other car. |

Thanks for the feedback! Sounds normal than, I am just coming from a E85 with the 2.5L M54 and a 5 speed which was very smooth in second gear, even at low revs. Surprisingly, the fuel economy on that car was also slightly better despite the older engine and me driving it A LOT harder
