My ode to Idrive

I was initially leery when I checked off the IDrive option. I had heard nothing but poor reviews in all of the magazines and from people who had the system.

As a software architect and holding a PhD in Instructional Design/eLearning, I have to say (to me at least) the system is very intuitive and easy to use, has a plethora of features that I have come to rely on daily, and a very simple and efficient navigation system complete with voice commands for hands free set up. The Ipod integration makes my music selection beyond easy (using the wheel to pinpoint a song in seconds from browsing through the on screen catalogue.

I am glad I was not swayed by the opinions of others. Granted there may be other more easy-to-use systems on the market but from my experiences with it, I am a satisfied user!

Hopefully this will help others contemplating the system.

I think the second hump is Ok considering you get so much more screen than other dinky nav systems. It also shelters the screen from sunlight and makes it more readable so another good ergonomic feature IMO.

It is funny how others are copying the placement of the screen; from placing it low in the dash to moving it high like BMW.

My wife's Audi's nav is down low. I feel it's hard to see it down there. Our's, on the other hand, is positioned perfectly. I like the second "hump", and miss it when I drive a non-idrive car.

Ya, the flat dash without the hump didn't really sell me either. The second hump gives it that "cockpit" feeling.

But as with everything aesthetic, it's just a matter of opinion.
