Factory Extended warranty - are you sitting down?

First of all, I am in Australia, and a E93 335 fully loaded costs about $140,000 in USD.

As I don't drive my car all that much, 3yrs and it's only just hit 13,800km,
I thought that I should extend the warranty as I figured that I haven't really used it much to break what would normally break under warranty.

I was convinced that I would extend the warranty, so I wasn't in any rush to have the rattles in the roof looked at, or any other minor things.

Now the warranty expires in 2 weeks time and I finally got around to calling the dealer to arrange it.

He said that for another 3 years of factory warranty it would be $3850

I said wow, why so much. He said, lucky you don't have a 35. I said, you mean a 335? that's what I have.
Oh, I thought you said 325, then in that case it's $6,780...

BMW, Are you f***King serious???

He said that if a turbo or something blew in the engine, it could cost $10k.
I figured that if I blew a turbo, I would rather spend $7k on two new 400hp turbos

Time to trade that car for a donkey... That is just way too much money for a 335.

Well, if you paid 2.5x the US price for your 335 to start with, I don't see a big deal paying 2.5x for the extended warranty. You also pay about 2.5x for the gas, too?

Why is your car $140,000 to start with? It doesn't cost $90,000 to ship a car...........

$140,000 in USD

Its even more costlier than in India.
If you have spent this amount, then 6k is not that bad, plus it will be for another 3 yrs. There can be more things other than the turbos. you will have a peace of mind. IMO, if you plan to keep your car for another 3 yrs then go ahead and get it.

Yup.. import tarrifs as well as Engine Displacement Taxes...

that's why the F30 328i is a MAJOR hit in countries that have these heavy taxes. 2 liter engine and its fairly quick

OP, move to the US and get yourself an Aston Martin.. R8.. used Lamborghini...

I'm assuming we're all ordinary people, which is why it seems outrageous. But as I recall, two years ago, an extended warranty on a M3 in USD was $6,700, so these are not numbers that are all that shocking to roundel owners...unfortunately.

We are pretty lucky that we live in the states. Cars here (foreign and domestic) are a lot cheaper than almost any other country in the world.

OP.. What does your warranty booklet say regarding the turbos?

Check and see what all extends past the 4 year / 50k mark. For instance, in California, the turbos are covered to 70k miles [and a few more years I believe] because they are part of the emissions system.

And for fucks sake, if the dipshit is telling you "it's going to cost us $10k to replace the turbos" tell him to fuck himself. It's not like the dealership loses $10k to replace your turbos, they replace them and bill BMW for the warranty work and parts. Sales people are such idiots.

Just for perspective - the 4-year, 50,000 mile extended warranty I bought on my E60 M5, from a third-party vendor, was almost $4k. It was worth it. BTW, that company has since ceased covering any additional E60 M5s...they covered a couple of $26k engine replacements. That was the end of that.

Don't you guys have Holdens and other fun cars to drive down there that we can't get? I can't imagine paying $140K for a 335, no matter where I was or how much money I had.

But if you did, you can hardly whine about the warranty cost!

At the end of the day, whatever extra you buy from BMW is 2x non-mobster market value. Doesn't matter what you buy (spark plugs, oil filters, fog lights).
