Stolen cars

Watched a show on cable which talked about stealing luxury cars BMW's etc. Looking at the setup to start my f30 it seems to me to be almost impossible to steal the car. Has anyone had their BMW stolen?

The point of the show was that organized crime is stealing these cars and selling them overseas.

There was a video out a while ago showing a 1 series being stolen. The criminal punched a hole in the window, plugged into the OBDII port and spoofed the car into thinking the correct key was withing proximity. An F30 can be stolen if the criminal has the knowledge, technology (laptop with a cable) and the opportunity.

I saw this as well. Can someone in the US get the OBDII reader? Not that I want to steal an F30

If you have enough money you can get anything.

That's cos under EU legislation the OBD port is not encrypted. It is to facilitate competition in the repairing & servicing industry.
There seems to be a hole in the security system for E-chassis BMWs, so they're very easy to steal once gained entry. BMW said the hole has been plugged for all F-series chassis & the car cannot be started using this method.

The F Series I believe needs ignition on to assign a new key, unlike the E Series.

the ODB port where you plug in the computer cable is also located under the dashboard now and more difficult to access without opening the door.
