Traffic Ticket - Contest by Mail - Advice Please!!!

I received a citation last month in Pasadena for speeding and the payment notice arrived this week from the courthouse. I'm considering the option to dispute by mail, but have never tried it in the past.

Has anyone on this board had experience with the option to dispute by mail? Could you share with me your experience and advice? Thanks in advance.

- What was the citation for and when?
- Which courthouse sent you the payment notice?
- What did you write in your response to dispute?
- Result?

BTW - This was on Fair Oaks and Huntington. I was going northbound, so be careful! The notice was to pay $272!!!!

Ticket Assasin is a good sight, but not the definitive source--the sad things is there is no definitive source. Do follow directions on contest by mail, then ask for trial etc. i'm 1 for 2 on this strategy.

Actually it was a school zone.... But a) the school is so small you don't even notice it... I drove by a 2nd time this week and I tried looking for the school and didn't even see it! b) when I was cited, it was around 7pm, way pass regular school hrs....

Was there any difference from when you won and when you lost? I had friends who tried disputing by writing an essay pretty much and they lost. I had one of the same friends, who replied with a simple "not guilty" plea and he won.

Okay, so after about 3 months, I manage to get my case dismissed. All that's left is for the courthouse to issue my refund check!!!

In addition to the site above, I found this link to be just as helpful... http://www.helpigotaticket.com/declar/request.html

When I sent in my form to make my case... I stuck with the generic "I stand by my plea of not guilty." I think this was the key to my dismissal. I have friends who wrote essays and those who used the same response I did and it seems that those who kept it simple had better odds. Just a hunch, but good luck to anyone else out there trying to fight their ticket.

The speed limit in the school zone should only be enforced when children are present. Drive back past the school I bet the sign says "Speed Limit 25MPH", then underneath there's another small sign that says "When Children Present". Take pictures of that sign and include it in your letter - if it was 7pm then obviously there were no school children present at that time and the speed limit should be equivalent to the last regulatory sign before the school zone sign.
