330XI Heavy Steering, Possible Problem...?

Sup Guys,

When I originally test drove my bimmer I notice the steering was relatively heavier than previous cars I've driven. Considering that i'd never driven a Bimmer and this was a "sport model" I didn't think much of it. Recently I drove a 325i and noticed that while the steering did provide some feedback it was a little lighter than mine. I guess my question is, is the steering on the 2006 330XI suppose to be heavier than an 06 325I?

Thanks in advance

Your bro from another mo...

I have an 07 sport. Steering is tight, I love it that way.
I have driven 2 other new 3's (loaners) and they were just plain jane without sport package. Steering on them were not as tight/heavy.
Now when I drive the wife's 2010 Maxima, it feels sloppy as all hell, almost like a boat.
When I went to Florida last week, I had a new Altima, Felt like I was being thrown around like a boat hitting waves.
The steering on the 3 is one of the reasons I have grown addicted to driving it.
Sits nice and tight on the roads.

Xi's dont have sport suspension with the sport pkg due to the front diff and TC. They have a beefier sway bar and more suspension components to handle the extra weight of the diff and tc and a higher ride height. Thats what you may be feeling the difference in steering

Just a quick guess to consider the following:

1) 325 could have been equipped with dynamic steering or servotronic and yours isn't
2) 325 might have had narrower and lighter wheels/tyre combo than your car
3) you have Xi so front wheels drive and steer unlike on 325, but I don't know if that's an issue

Kool, I guess there's nothing to be concerned about then. I enjoy the tight steering when driving but parking can get annoying.

Thanks

I think E90's in general have heavier steering - on my Wife's E46 the steering is considerably lighter, same size wheels and tyres, and even with my spare "service" wheels. Even my heavier pickup has lighter steering than my 330i, but I am perfectly happy with the 'feel' and therefore weight of my car's steering. But in your case being an Xi, I would think heavier front end, and isn't the front suspension height a bit different compared to the normal RWD E90's? But yes, active steering was an option for the E90 and makes especially low speed town driving a lighter affair...

On my XI i read in my manual that I dont have adaptive steering or whatever its called. I drove a RWD 335 and it was much easier. Its just because we have AWD
