I've owned my car for a little over a year now, but it was originally owned in Florida for the first 4 years of it's life...
my question is... my fan seems to act up sometimes... bad thermostat? ... does the florida heat wear on these cars more? do you guys expierence any higher rate of water pump failure's? anything else i should be aware of? (Bought my car from the BMW dealer in Pembroke Pines, Ft. Lauderdale)

yes, it has been hot the last few days (95+ the last 4 or 5 days) but that is not what is causing my fan to run more often... I have been noticing this since mid-spring. That is what really got my attention, a 70 degree day, very niec out, no hard driving, no AC,and fan is running full bore like I was just racing 10miles uphill. My car goes into the dealer in a few weeks, I want to get them to look at this but want to sound "informed" when I tell them about it with hopes of getting whatever (if there is even a problem) replaced under CPO.

BMW really runs a fine line with the temps of these cars. The water thermostat is set at about 205 degrees and the car runs between 205-210 degrees as a normal course of business. On the oil side, they set the thermostat at about 245 degrees.
I constantly hear about people looking to upgrade the cooling because their vehicles are running too hot, when it is the BMW design that they run that hot. The cars could run cooler if we simply replaced the thermostats with lower temp items. While it initially disturbed me, I just ignore it now and the car seems to run fine. |

I moved back to Miami after being in Chicago for 7 years and just had to replace my 2008 e92's waterpump @ 70K miles. My ride was overheating and after an hour wouldn't cool off and had to get towed.

Is the fan running abnormaly a sign of a failing water pump? ... does this throw any error codes the dealer could look up?
I am covered under CPO and want this replaced if this is the problem.

Yes it is. I think it does throw a code, but not one that would cause a dash light to turn on. Go to autozone, you can get your codes read for free and see if anything pops up.

Had a 2006 325i ..2010 E92 335i & a 2007 E92 328i .. All teh water pumps crapped out at about 60k ... smh .. damn shame .. love my whips aside rom that but they do have a normal tendacy to this ..
