Upgrade to 8.8" without nav?

I've ordered the Drivers Assistance Package on my 13 MSport, but I have no interest in the nav package, aside from the larger screen. I'm concerned that on the stock/smaller screen, the camera views will be more condensed, due to the lesser amount of screen real estate.

I have seen the videos floating around of a guy who has upgraded the screens, but my question is really about the screen resolution.

<videos, for reference>

If I were to pop the larger screen in, would it automatically resize the resolution? And if not, is there a setting to set a resolution that fits the new screen size? (Probably a question for svache?)

Of course, I'd prefer a more native resolution for the larger screen, if possible; rather than a zoom setting/stretchovision.

I guess we all know why they did not make the 8.8 screen standard with the Nav functionality optional. Which appears to work just fine? Hmmm What pricing Should be paid for the upgraded 8.8 screen and the install?

The Activehybrid 3 comes with no-nav as standard & it has 8.8" screen, tho it has sth called "nav preparation" as standard.

The res for 6.5" screen is I think 800x400, for the 8.8" it's 1280x600.
The video shows the full upgrade of screen+nav, u cannot just upgrade the screen.

If nav/dvd is required for full screen resolution, I wonder if it (and/or the screen) can be purchased by a third party distributor?

From looking at the video and other tag on the car, it is done in Singapore Asia.

As someone said above, you must purchase the CIC with nav to drive the larger screen. You don't have to enable the nav feature but only that CIC has the necessary video driver to push out the higher resolution video signal.

Looks like I might go ahead and adjust my order to include the nav then. Not going to go the full route of the Technology Package though (I'm not an iPhone guy), so just the nav and the required enhanced USB/BT. Going retrofit would only save me a very small amount, and I'd rather have the unit included in the factory warranty.

Gotta love proprietary gear. ; )

Same HW, just missing the activation code for nav. Makes it easily upgradable.

We can do this conversion with full OEM Navigation activation or not depending on your requirements.

very cool. So a combox media retrofit + 8.8" screen upgrade would work if I don't want nav?

I've been looking up part numbers and costs. The Nav CIC doesn't seem too expensive:

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...74&hg=65&fg=50 Roughly $1100

the screen:
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...56&hg=65&fg=45

The screen is $2300! Why so much for an lcd screen? Looking at all the options that come with the tech package... def worth it. Should have picked up my F30 with it!

Yeah $2300 doesn't sound right.

Order the car with navigation, the screen retails for $2300 US. Nav is about that much.

You forgot about the Nav activation cost which is not cheap either.
The brand new parts with the OEM activation would be very expensive, but we are offering much cheaper solution with used OEM parts and OEM activation.

Is your solution less expensive then ordering the car with it? Not trying to be a jerk, but that would be awesome if so!
