2013 XDrive suspension
Hi, this is my first post but I have been checking the forums for a while. I am looking to purchase my first BMW and is still deciding on 328 xdrive or 335 xdrive sportline.
I live in NYC and as you may know, the road conditions are pretty bad in certain parts of the city. I know that the MY13 XDrive does not include the sport suspension. I read that sport suspension and rough roads do not mix well. Then does the MY13 XDrive sportline have the normal suspension and do you guys think that the car will ride OK on rough roads? thanks!! |

I also have some confusion on the Dynamic Handing Package. How does the Adaptive M Suspension affect the suspension on the xDrive? Does it make sense to add this if I'm getting the xDrive? Sorry, I'm a newbie with all these tech.
thanks! |

If you enjoy driving - I think Dynamic Handling Package is must have and it's pretty inexpensive considering what it gives you.
If I had a chance to get only one package - it would be the one! From BMW.com: "Adaptive M suspension. The optional Adaptive M suspension provides further reinforcement for the dynamic driving characteristics of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and exploits their visual effect to the full, without comprising in any way on comfort. In the optional Adaptive M suspension, a lowering of the chassis by ten millimetres and electronically controlled dampers result in increased agility. During the journey, sensors continuously measure data and control the shock absorber valves in the Adaptive M suspension according to the driving situation and road profile. This takes place for each wheel individually so that optimum road holding is guaranteed at all times. An electronic control unit processes information on wheel, lateral and longitudinal acceleration, on vehicle speed as well as on steering wheel position in order to adapt the damper parameters to the road profile and driving situation. In addition to this, the driver can individually alter the setting of the suspension to increase comfort or sporting character via the Driving Experience Control." |

So the package does lower the chassis even on xDrive sedans?
If what I read is correct, the package will automatically adjust the suspension based on real-time road conditions. So in other words, if the road condition is good, then it will be like sport suspension but if I do hit one of the many potholes, then the suspension will automatically adjust so I won't feel or hear too much of the impact? Please correct me if I'm wrong. thanks! |

from what i understand the xdrive suspension is higher then stock thats why xdrives cars look like they have a lift kit. or is it different for the F30 cars.
I am also in Staten Island NY and would like to get xdrive with Active suspension but dont want the lifted look. |

If the xDrive suspension already rides higher, do you guys think the Dynamic Handling Package is really necessary if my main concern is dealing with rough roads? The extra cost is a factor for me.

Curious about this too, since xDrive cars presumably have the standard suspension does adding the dynamic handling package really have any measurable performance benefit?

I asked my CA about adding the Adaptive M Suspension on xDrive and he replied after checking with BMW performance center that it only makes the suspension stiffer not lighter. He mentioned it will punish the car on rough roads and not recommend me to add the option.

If cost is an issue, then save yourself $1000. and probably some more pricey repairs as the car ages. NYC roads have a worse rep than those here in the Midwest and they are not good. I still bought the dyn handling package but I enjoy those outrageous german car repair bills-it gives my wife something to complain about. LOL Last edited by emtrey; 06-22-2012 at 12:08 PM.. |

I really question your CA. By design the adaptive suspension is to stiffen the suspension when desired but is supposed to adjust to soften bumps when they are encountered. Am I missing something or am I right is suspecting the CA knows nothing of what he is talking about?
