335 to 328 exhaust

Is it posible to take an oem 328 performance exhaust and install it on a 335? Obviously I know that my diffusor would need to be changed, but I'm thinking the piping under neath would be the same, sans the extra muffler.

My reasons are:
1. Oddly enough, I never was completely a fan of the 335s dual exhaust set up, and always preferred a more traditional single sided exhaust, like other bmws.
2. By going with a single exhaust, I would be able to install the deep trunk bin and get some more storage space. Corny, I know.
3. The 328s PE would be about $300 cheaper than the 335s.

I know it's not much but I'm planning on upgrading to the PE and want to know all of my options. Anyone know what it would sound like?

You can do anything you want for a price. I'm sure it wouldn't be to expensive to weld it up. The question is will it be too restrictive? I'm thinking it may be.

The exhaust will not bolt right up, I have actually looked into doing the same thing but I was only going to run the tip. I was going to make my own custom exhaust from the DPs out. It is for sure doable, but I am certain you can't simply take a 328 exhaust and just put it on, maybe with some modifications, maybe, but I doubt it. I still think full custom is the way to go, then just use the muffler and tip.

I was affraid of this. If if was going to be a simple bolt on I'd do it in a heartbeat. But if I need to do some custom work, I'm better of spending the money on an exhaust set up made specifically for an n54. Anyone else?

Excluding the performance headaches you'd get from the 328 exhaust, the $300 savings would disappear during the install. Looks like you're going custom or BMW PE

Although I personally hate the one sided exhaust, putting a 328 badge and a single sided exhaust would be so much fun in unsuspecting races.

Do it, any exhaust shop should be able to do it if they arent idiots. and of course if you have a 328 bumper.

This would be cool for the single turbo guys looking to do a competely sleeper look. Single downpipe, single midpipe, to single muffler with plain twin tips. Hilarity from races would ensue.

If you're going to weld it up anyhow, any exhaust shop should be able to do it. They'll just cut the flanges off and angle it properly to weld. But what about the diameter? Is the 328 exhaust slightly smaller?

It would also sound FAR better. I've got half a mind to build a 4" single for the car with some spare stuff I have and swap a 328i bumper with someone.

My masterplan would be this:

Run the pipes as they are, but chop them off somewhere near the rear axle. Expand the drivers side piping from the axleback to 3.5" and put a large long tube style muffler with good flow and a single tip on the outside of the drivers side. For the passenger side pipe, re-route it towards the drivers side in 2.5" piping with no muffler, just a vaccum controlled valve that can open or close. Throw a single tip on this pipe as well, you now have both single tips on the same side beside eachother effectively making a single sided dual outlet exhaust, just like the 328i.

You now have a one sided exhaust, a quiet cruising exhaust, and a loud racing exhaust all in one. The cost of work involved shouldn't be too crazy since it's all axleback and you can use a universal muffler on the quiet side and it's just a pipe on the loud side.

Haha amazing. But I'll be honest, a little more work than I initially wanted.
