Exclamation Overheating issue..waterpump?

ok so I left my car running while I went into the store today and when I came outside I heard my fan running louder then usual.. I thought maybe because it was just a hot day so I got in and drove off.

About a half of mile down the street an orange over heat warning came on followed by a red over heat warning. I immediately pulled over and turned the vehicle off and opened the hood to find that it wasn't really hot to the touch. I let it sit for about 15 minutes and drove off. This continued about 7-8 times. and when the warning light would come back and I would pull over and let it sit and did that until I got home.

Do you think I could of harmed my engine at all? or anything?

I don't hear the water pump turn on at all.. So I will be bringing it to the dealer for a warranty claim. Along with the annoying waste gates.

Thanks for the input!

Weird, i hope he changed the t stat aswell when he changed the pump, no it is if you have warranty, but i dont anymore so thats why the charge. check your coolant? and the best bet would be to scan the car or find someone near your area that has a scanner to scan it for you.

water pump and possibly thermostat failure.... trust me, thats what i had last week, had to get em replaced. I jus towed mine to the dealer, cause by the time i would of got there it would of taken me 10 times of pulling over and letting it cool down. But blasting the AC does help cause it runs the fan to help cool, but its still not enough.

Pretty sure blasting the heat would help more. When I was younger I had a piece of shit dodge that always overheated, blasting the heat was the only way to keep it cool

My e60 did the same, your pump most likely failed. Ended up replacing the pump and tstat, runs like a champ again. The parts are expensive, but you could replace them yourself if you don't feel like paying someone. Buddy of mine and I did it in my garage, took about 3-4 hours including the usual bs/beer drinking. The car "burps" itselft afterwards, just look for the DIY. Good luck!
