Cobb's in the mail

Very excited about this - my first Mod will be a Cobb AP!!
Since my old E34, I haven't touched or thought of touching a car's ECU but the N54 has way more power (even stock) than I could've seen coming. Looking forward to what this baby can do with a tune. Glad one has the sport package so it'll help a bit holding on to all that power!!

The jump from stock N54 to stage 1 is massive. You will absolutely love it!

Trying to keep it as close to stock as possible, thought about a k&n filter with scoops since that won't probably cause a warranty issue that way. The car is @ 42k and I'm planning to get the Gold extended before factory runs out. I think a DCI (or similar) will be a pain to remove if needed though. If it can be quantified, how much better is it than a drop in with scoops?

Congrats lucky man!

I would say KN filter is pretty much an install and forget type of mod with a few HP gains. With Stage 1 a DCI won't really show it's true advantage.

The sound you get from the DCI is worth the cost/install IMO. It's not hard to install or put back to stock.

I can promise that you guys will not be disappointed with the increase in power once you install the COBB tune. The car becomes a whole different beast even just going from stock to Stage 1. I'll give you a heads up though, once you feel the difference from the upgrade in the tune, it's likely you'll catch the mod bug.

I don't think anyone here would argue that a real intake upgrade (BMS DCI/aFe DCI) wouldn't yield substantial results over a drop-in filter. I can tell you that it's really not as hard as you would think: All you need is some patience, a flat-had screw driver & a computer with all the videos/pdfs open and it's really straight forward. Out of all of them, the BMS DCI will prob be a little easier to install b/c it's just two cones that go right into the intake tubing. But the aFe has a heat shield mount that replaces the bottom of the OEM airbox (utilizing the airbox mounts) and offers a more factory-clean engine bay appearance.

I this the same as an FMIC upgrade?

My SA while discussing upgrades (Dinan) checked my car and said that I could get Dinan stage 2 because I had some sort of cooler installed (he checked the pass front wheel well behind the bumper) and that was the necessary to go to stage 2 otherwise I could only do stage 1.

Well more than likely having a sports package will give you an
Oil cooler and that's why they said stage 2 BUT even with Dinan stage 2 you
Won't compare to cobb

Yes, thanks!!! That's what he said - an oil cooler. Not intercooler.

That's where you're wrong. A dual cone intake doesn't do much except make an annoying woosh sound. The "substantial result" is not so substantial at all. Few horses at most.

+1. I just installed the DCI yesterday. Takes about 20 minutes if you know how to remove the cowl.

You'll love it! just be prepared to possibly have to change your coils and spark plugs.

I can't get too crazy as I want to keep my car as stock as possible (CPO). I was only going to do the tune and DCI's. I want a FMIC but I think that will be pushing it too far, don't want to give my SA any reason to trip!
