Singapore

Surprised they'd no Singapore posts. I'm here with work and not seen this many flash motors in a long time. Which is unusual because i hear the car tax licence for ten years typically costs more than the car.

Anyhow, just to say hi.

Chris ... It's because they have their own forum. Cars are not cheap there because of the COE, basically your permit to own a vehicle. Its a form of tax revenue. Come see Malaysia, an E92 M3 costs a shade under USD245k here. Road tax is about just under USD3k per year. How's that? :0)

i'm from singapore. yes the car license (COE) last only 10 years and you have to scrap the car or get a new COE after 10 years. the cost of a COE for a 1.6 litres and above car is now about USD50k. so anyone who wants to buy a new COE for their 10 year old car has to fork out USD50K to use the car for another 10 years.
apart from this COE, the authorities tax you further on new registered cars. for a USD30K car, one will need to pay another USD30K in tax and USD6K (20% of car price of USD30K)in excise duty.
on top of all these, there is the GST (or VAT in UK) of 7%.
add in the margins that the dealers make, you're looking at paying about USD170K for a car which is worth 30K.

i'll pass on screwing you.

a lambo aventador costs SGD1.5mil which is about USD1.15mil. insurance should be a 5 digit sum yearly. 2nd hand lambos cost anywhere between SGD300K to almost SGD1mil depending on models.

an Audi R8 here cost about SGD900k.

a few weeks ago some guy crashed his Ferarri 599 GTO (which caused 3 deaths ) and that car cost SGD 1.5mil.

basically cars cost at least 4 to 5 times more compared to US or UK.

for your 81K USD, we can buy a made in china cherry QQ with some change to spare.
