You can't see any volume level display, been like that since my E60 in 2006 and I believe there is no option to display it.

Now, this issue came up before

I gave it some thought.

Why do you need a visual representation of the "level" for something that can't be seen.

Even if the volume level indicator was shown on the display, how does this help you?

If the theoretical volume indicator was at 75% and sound pressure level is too low because of ambient noise then you are going to adjust it even higher and the visual cue means nothing.

Now, the real reason BMW declines to show the volume level is due to the speed sensing adjustment. Many people cannot perceive the increase in volume in "speed sensing" mode. However, if you were to see this adjustment visually (go up an down) it would be annoying and then you would start to hear the increase as you see the display show the increase (due to speed sensing)---and that would be even more annoying.

Thus, the proper decision to eliminate a volume graph in its entirety was made.

^ people might want to set volume limits for themselves..to protect their hearing. a visual aid would be good for that.

that being said.. i've never realized or missed it.

Yes it's extremely annoying. Can you imagine using your iPhone or TV without any volume indicator???

BMW doesn't put VVLD (Visual Volume Level for the Deaf) in their cars.

Lol! Oh, God no! Not that!

I don't recall any of my BMW's 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2011 ever having a visual indicator for the volume. Do you guys recall any?

I prefer not having a visual display.... i have this weird quirk where i only like the volume display to have even numbers....which rules out half the settings. No display eliminates this problem.

My E46 didnt have a volume display that I recall....but that was a few cars ago.

You're not alone.. with me it's also certain numbers (just not only even, it's a bit more complicated lol) xD

And not having the volume displayed makes it even more irritating for me because now I don't know if it's on a setting I like or not lol

True.. it's always in Fahrenheit with me :P

Other than that, it's usually on 65 (which is 18.3C but I'm guessing the display will show 18.5C). Sometimes it's on 68F, and if it gets cooler outside in the evening, I often change it to 70, and sometimes 75 or even 80 lol

And don't get me started on how it would be if I used Celsius with number after the decimal lol, that makes it even more complicated

And that decision for that reason was made at least 7 years ago!!! Same on my E90 Logic7.

just stumbled upon this thread thru google. I think the "speed sensing" rationale is a lame reason to not provide a volume display. BMW is not the only car that has the speed sensitive volume feature and other cars do display the volume. All that it needs to do is to display the same volume level irrespective of speed (and the actual adjusted volume). I would for one want to know the volume level to make sure I am playing at less than 70% of the max power to "know" that I'm not allowing too much distortion or that I'm not stressing the system too much.

Heh, I'm the same way. I even go as far to prefer perfect squares like 16 over 14 or 18. I like no volume display for the same reason, but I really preferred the last VW I owned which had a volume bar but no numeric measure displayed.
