Angry Huge Flourescent light bulb fell on my car!

At the BMW service center no less!

ok here's the deal.

I took the car in for service on Saturday and left it there to pick it up during the week, anyways. I had to go to college during the week for summer classes (about 100 miles away from my home town). As i was getting ready to leave on sunday night i realised i had left my apartmente keys in the bimmer, so i stayed to go get them monday morning at the dealership.

So i got there told them i needed to get my keys. One of the BMW guys escorted me to the service garage to find my car covered in white dust and thousands of glass shards from the above light assembly.

I got there about 1 min after the thing fell, talk about right place right time.

the guy that escorted me there was like um shit, and i was like yeah you better fix this. i got my keys then went to talk to the manager, he went back to see what had happened and said they would take care of it. I told them to wash the car and inspect for damage (it was quite dirty), he said they would wax and buff it and if serious scratches had taken place they would take the appropriate action.

I was pretty calm and cool through all this, i understand it was an accident.

do you think i should ask for any sort of compensation or anything from the dealership.

Oh, and it was pretty interesting how the manager's attitude towards me changed after this, when i dropped off the car he was a total jerk, like if he was being inconvenienced by my bringing the car in for service. When i told him I needed to get the keys he told another guy, yeah take him to his mini in a very condescending tone and i was ummm no it's a red BMW not a mini. i look pretty young and he assumed i had a mini, even though he was the guy that took my car in the previous business day.

If I hadn't seen that im sure they would have just hidden it from me.

You really have no reason to demand comphensation. Why does everyone assume every little incident entitles them to some sort of free comphensation? They promised to fix any damages free of charge, that should be more than enough.

Strange accident, though. Hope you didn't breath that powder in, very toxic; it's phosphorus.

Im happy with them just fixing it. I was just wondering what you guys would have done in the same situation. I don't really want any compensation just wondering

hehehe... the guy in Puerto Rico spells better in English than the guy in California. I'm just saying....

Javier - it sounds like you handled things very well. I'm not too old to remember what it was like being young and snubbed by pencil-necks like that manager. Cudos to you for handling yourself better than he did.

Hopefully there are no dents or scratches, and she'll be fine.

to be honest i really doubt it will have serious scratches, if any at all. I'm just glad they're gonna wax and buff it...

oh yeah for SURE.. we took in my brothers car once and they made a BIG scratch on the aluminum trim shifter..

so we go in and talk to them and they start denying it.. "oh that was there before, we didn't do that.. we just talked with all the people working" and we're just like 'DO YOU REALLY THINK SOMEONE IS GOING TO ADMIT THAT?"

so they finally replaced it after a lottt of stress

The OP already stated that the dealer was going to detail the car, and if there were scratches they would do what they needed to do. Why is everyone acting like they are not taking care of it?

I was thinking the exact same thing after I read the second post. lol! The funny thing is that the guy from Cali spelled the same (mis-spelled) word twice. lol!

I believe that since you were able to keep your cool, the situation was kept under control. When things like this transpire, I always try to preach that resistance is met with resistance. Copping(sp) an attitude would only augment the situation and get you nowhere...

In a similar situation, I would've asked that the car be inspected and express concern as my vehicle is a lease. If everything checked out and necessary repairs were done, I'd have no problem...

they called me today to say they we're reprogramming the car and as soon as they were finished with everything they would take care of the bulb incident and call me when it was done.

i think it's sad that the service folks were buttholes to you initially. i work at a very large bmw/mini center in atlanta and we have gotten center of excellence 4 years in a row. people just gotta excel in customer service, ESPECIALLY in this competitive market. they'd better shape up or they will be shipped out....BTW, sorry about the light on your car, that would piss me off something awful, at least they are taking care of it, I guess that's all you can really ask for, maybe yo can get a hat out of them!!

Javier dont feel so bad for this.

My 335 was hit and scratched in AutoGermana just having one week of use. It was during alarm and Ipod installation. They took complete responsibility for the damages. The body shop they used is in Bayamon and made an excellent job. Like if nothing would happened.

What I recommend to you is to inspect in a clear area for any scratch or dent due to the accident. Take your time doing this. If you find something demand for repair. You have all the right to do it.
