ANOTHER fuel pump failure for the record

Well... it finally happened to me.

After a month or so of long cranks on start, this past weekend, I got the Engine Malfunction, Reduced Power message. The dealer wouldn't take my car right away despite getting this message because they were booked. They also told me that they only pay for a loaner for the first 24 hours.

The day before my appointment, I was on the freeway passing their off ramp and it happened again, so I said SCREW THIS and drove straight there.

I told them about the problems and that they should check the fuel pump. SA was like "high pressure what?!?" The next day, I get the call, yup... my high pressure fuel pump has failed and um... the part is back-order.

They have no idea when the part will be in but she told me that they have a client who has been waiting for the part since March!!!

I leased the car on Jan 1st 2007. On the Jan 4th, I took my car into the shop for a BMW factory alarm install. The dealer botched the install and my car wouldn't start after reprogramming. It was in the shop until Feb. 2nd!!!
28 days!!!!

Now it's back in with a fuel pump issue at 6500 miles and there is no ETA for the part to fix it???

This is just horrible. I'm in a 325 loaner. They now say they'll be covering the cost of the loaner while I'm out of my car.

I didn't lease a 325, I leased a 335. It's summer time. I want to enjoy the car I'm paying for, not a loaner. I'm now at day 30. In California, the lemon law states that the car shouldn't be in the shop for more than 30 days in the first 18 months. I was at day 28 in the first month!!!

What should I do?!?!?

Was yours a lease? Did they settle or did you actually have to take it to court? Did you replace with the same thing?

wow is kind of lucky that it only took me two days to get the high pressure pump replaced (few days ago June 18) but then is kind of suck that my car is in the shop Again. After 1 day (June 21) the check engine light is ON AGAIN and the dealer has no idea why ! ! ! ? ? ? Now they are waiting response from BMW Canada for the next action

BMW better take care of this problem fast before it really starts to blow out of proportion with the upcoming 08 335i and 535i models.

If this story hits the news stations, it will surely hurt BMW quite a bit, IMO.

So sorry to hear that. This is absolutely unsatisfactory, particularly on the dealer end. You paid a ton of $$$ for a HIGH PERFORMING car and it's not even PERFORMING, let a lone at HIGH level. If I were you, I'd lemon the POS and get another one or some sort of compensation. I can understand a Honda or a Toyota, but for a BMW!? Good luck and hope things fill fall through for you.

Cheers!

When mine did that, it was a failed Siemens fuel injector

LKEVINL, Talk to the service/general manager. My pump failed and got BMWNA to cover my lease payments. I know where you are coming from in regards to the enjoyment and performance, but if you get to keep the 325i and they cover your payments, it will at least easy the pain!

Actually, odds are this wouldn't happen on a Honda or a Toyota...

If I had to lemon my car this would be my first and last BMW. It's not like these cars are lemons - they have one part that is poorly manufactured and unavailable, but it might as well be the engine itself as the car is a paperweight without this part, and 30 days without something you paid $40K-$50K for is enough to justify returning the car for a full refund, regardless of the details of why. I suspect a year from now the cars will be solid but the FUD being generated right now is stressful, and my car still runs.

BMW has manufactured these problems, literally. If I have to lemon this car, I wouldn't want to get any other one but another BMW. The car is GREAT when it's functioning.

I don't want to stick it to BMW but I'm not getting what I paid for and that's not right. I'll be happy to try again from scratch despite the trouble I've already had.

They did cover the loaner and the lease payments when I had the alarm install trouble. It would be kind of embarassing not to considering that I drove the car for 4 days after leasing and then didn't see it for the next 4 weeks! The sad thing is that I just got the last payment they owed me for that fiasco a few weeks ago. Now I'm back in with more trouble. I think they want to run and hide when they see me coming.

Hey... is it really possible that they could have no idea on the ETA for these parts? The SA claims they contacted BMWNA and that they could give no word at all about the situation. How can they possibly leave customers hanging like that and think it is OK?

BMW doesn't have to answer to anyone, they are a privately held company. But, I feel your pain, I am in the exact same situation.

BMW IS a public company, it's just isn't listed on any US exchange. It is listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, and I believe London as well.

This is true, and even if it wasn't, what difference does it make? I am not sure what he meant by saying BMW is a private company. That didn't make any sense at all.
