Dotz mugello 17 wheels+ continental sport contact 3 tires

Hello

Just bought my bmw 320d e90 about month ago and now I am planning to buy some nice 17" wheels+summer tires.
Old wheels are OEM 154 style 16" and i was thinking about to get dotz mugello 17"
ET35,Bolt Pattern 5x120, Width : 8.http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/17_In...y_Wheels__1069
and tires Continental sport contact 3 (225/45/17).

Those wheels will fit into my car, right? and what do you think about tires?

I havent had 17" wheels never before and Im worried about how big driving diference it is between 16" and 17" because We have couple of speedbumps and some potholes here . What about steering, is it much heavier? Those wheels make more noise too, right?

All tips and opinions are welcome

Can't see the exact wheels you want to get but you'll be fine with 17's, make sure you get 225/45r17 fronts and 255/40r17 rears. Steering won't be heavier but it will feel much more precise and the noise levels depend entirely on the brand/type of tires and not really on size.

I would personally go for an 18" wheel though, I find 17's look a tad too small on the e90 chassis and with 18's you'll still have enough tire to maintain decent comfort.

I fixed link now and wrote down wheel info.
Atleast search machine says that wheel is correct but i just want to make sure.
Why you suggest me to buy different size rear tires?

The tire sizes I suggested are the factory sizes for the sport package on sedans. I would also suggest buying staggered wheels (wider in the back) as again, that's how it comes from the factory.

Factory sports package wheels and tires are as follows:

Front: 17x8 et 34 225/45r17

Rear: 17x8.5 et 37 255/40r17

In the US and Canada, sport package models come with larger wheels and tires on the rear. Since this means that you cannot rotate tires and it tends to increase understeer, I would stick with 225/45R17 all around. And since your 320d model has never been available here, I suggest you consult your manual for recommended tire/weel sizes.

While some folks prefer the larger rear tires for looks, I have owned BMWs both with staggered (larger rear) tires and square and prefer square for the reasons given above.

Also, there is little difference between 16" and 17" wheels for handling and ride.

You dont need different size tyres to rear, if you have same size wheels allround.225/45/17 its fine to rear.

BUT

Dotz mugello at size 17inch will look like 16 inch because the lip makes wheel look smaller. Also 17x8 et35 rear is quite sunked.

I would go with 18x9 allround with front 18x9 et35 and rear 18x9 et18

and with 225-235/40/18 tyres allround or you could use 255/35 rear

here is picture of front 18x8 and rear 18x9
http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showp...1&postcount=68

Here is a video about e90 with 18inch dotz mugello.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJfacRic86I

If you want to use 17 inch wheel buy 17x8 et 20 allround it will look better than et35.And with 225/45/17 tyres.

Here is 18x8 with et 20 front. tyres 225/40/18. 17 inch et20 will be at same point.
http://www.bmwforum.fi/download/file.php?id=730
Rear is 18x8 et20 with 15mm spacer so rear is ET5

If you think about your et35 would retract 1.2inch (30mm) more.

Anyway dotz mugellos look good.

Yes, those will fit, but a wheel like the Mugello with a lip will look kinda small in 17".

In 17", the new Dotz Rapier might by a nicer alternative to the Mugello.

BTW, I had Mugello in 19" before, 19x8.5 ET35 235/35/19 and 19x9.5 ET35 265/30/19.

Maybe I should've specified, as others said, you don't have to get different wheel or tire sizes in the front or back, but I (and many other people) prefer the look of a staggered wheel/tire setup. It's a matter of personal taste in the end, a square setup with the same tires all around will work just fine.

That would've been my suggestion as well...since you're upsizing, you might as well get a good size, I'm afraid you'll be kicking yourself in the nuts after a few weeks for not going for 18's.

I'm currently on 18's, coming from 17's and the roads here in Quebec are some of the worst in NA but the ride isn't all that bad!
