Buying My First BMW, Should i get Extended Warranty?

Hello Everyone,

first off i would like to thank everyone who post here as reading this forum has made the decision to get the new 328i an easy one.

My question is at $2800 extra, is it worth it to extend my warranty to 6 years 160 000KM?

What about Wheel and Tire insurance?

Thanks in Advance

In regards to this topic... Is it possible to buy an aftermarket extended warranty? My friend bought a Chrysler warranty when he was purchasing a used vehicle and it has paid for itself many times over!

Wait until your current warranty is about to expire. That will give you a better understanding of your particular car reliability. Also you may have your eye on something else by then.

do not get it. i was going to until i read what it covers. not worth it at all.

there was something i did get though, can't remember what it was. it was like in the 2-3 grand range and my CA said if you use it then it's worth it, if not you get the money back.

Yea, I was also offered this. It sounded like a much better deal but can't remember what it's called :/

I would not buy wheel and tire insurance. I would buy the extended warranty if you plan on keeping the car past 50k. BMW is expensive to fix.

Just make sure you put a quality brand name tire on your BMW once the run flats run out in about 30k. You can always insure the tires for an extra $100.00 at belle tire or discount tire for the life of the tire. Michelins and Continentals tend to work best on BMWs.

read what the extended warranty doesn't cover. i swear the only thing it does cover is oil changes.

I plan on keeping it for about 8 years, 48 month lease, buy it out for my wife to drive and then trade it in after 8 years. Potentially having it for 200000 km. Thanks for all the advice so far.

Wheel and tire insurance is a must have. You can't repair run flats so a 20 cent nail can cost you $350.00.

Agree on the wheel and tire insurance….have had to use it 3 times for a total around $1600. In my case it was totally worth it

Some run-flats are able to be patched. Info directly from Discount Tire. Some aren't. Depends on the brand.

I was quoted $30 per tire for road hazard insurance from Discount Tire.
Do your research and a 5 cent nail in your tire can either be safely patched or replaced for $30.

It depends on if you are willing to work on the car after the original warranty is up. No one knows if the N20's have any major problems yet, so its up to you really.

rude...

Rather than answering a question with a question, and regardless of the OP's answer to yours, my response to buying insurance from car companies is the same: no

For me, it makes no sense to get additional warranty even though I plan on keeping the car for more than 4 years. You can usually tell if your car is going to last or have problems by how it performs during the warranty period. If reliability is an issue within the 4 years, why not trade it in and get another car at the end of the warranty period? Plus, there are many rules and restrictions for filing a successful claim under additional warranty coverage. It is not worth it in my opinion.

This is like the cashier at Best Buy asking if you want to buy $70 3-year extended warranty on a $200 vacuum cleaner at the checkout line. Just say no. Let's say it's a great deal for Best Buy... most people never claim the warranty. Best Buy makes more profit from this than their retail.

This insurance is the same as any other insurance product. It's offered after actuaries and statisticians have figured out that THEY stand a better chance of coming out on top, rather than the insured. The odds are it WON'T be "worth" it for you. I'd pass.

You ever notice when you fly into a big city that there are only two kinds of companies whose names are on top of those buildings.....banks and insurance companies. There's a reason for that.

I think tire and wheel is a waste as well. I had all my flats repaired at Discount Tire for free. No problems so far.

Trust me, do some homework about buying the car at the end of a lease. 99% of the time it's not worth it!
If you REALLY plan on keeping the car for that long, you should finance it vs leasing it. Yes, the payments will be higher, but you will save sooooo much more money in the end.
This is just my two cents!
Good luck to you though!
