E90 335is / 135i DCT Swap with 335i
Has anyone done this swap?
Its kind of disappointing that BMW NA didn't offer the DCT on the 335i sedan yet they do offer it on the 135i. I cannot afford the e90 M3 but i wanted the DCT transmission and the 335is is 2 door only. I currently own a e36 and was looking to get a 335i this summer but do not want the standard auto. Am I out of luck? Thanks. |

Usually a sign that no one has done it. The transmission alone is $8300 on Tischer. Kinda falls under the "just get one with it" category.

You should be able to do, have no idea how much it will cost, it because BMW sells the 335i with the DCT in other parts of the world. Would be a case of rounding up the factory swap parts & a 7DCT from a wrecking yard to keep the cost down.

Would you need parts from a 335i sedan from out of the country or would the 335is parts work from a US car? |

How would you programm this into a car? I'm afraid thats going to be extremly hard.. maybe with a 335is ECU swap... but still

This is a awesome question, I'm curious myself. Kinda put to much into this 335 already. Lol this standard auto is kinda getting boring. I'm going to look into this more in depth

The thing is that you need to find a BMW dealer that would like to join you on this journey. They have to help you with updating your software.

If lucky enough, a salvage manual car sit in junk yard will be a great choice, just take the ECU and trans. BTW, I don't think dealer would let us access to the software. |

The DCT is the main reason I wouldn't get the 335is. The steptronic is better suited to hard launches without the worry of worn clutch plates. That and the fact I wish you could get a new steptronic sedan with a N54.

The auto transmission has come a looooooooooooooong way since your e36. You can drive in two different auto modes...D and DS (sport), you can shift manually from the lever or the steering wheel paddles. And most importantly it can hold up to a lot more abuse than the DCT.

as far as I know you can get reinforced clutch for the dct, and it should be the same dct as on e92 m3, they are holding 450-500whp fine, but on the superchargers setups which has less torque than turbo

1)DCT 2)EGS module (transmission ECU) belonging to a DCT 3)Programming and coding software (INPA/WINKFP/TOOL32) Not sure yet if a new EGS mdoule would be needed since a used module would have the old car's VIN assigned to it. I know for sure that you can't overwrite a VIN on a DME (engine ECU), I'd have to check if it's the same for a EGS. So, my guess is you would have to install the new transmission, install the EGS module, assign your vehicle VIN to the new EGS module, update VO (vehicle options list) so that the DCT is recognized by the car and finally code the EGS module so it reads the right values from the new transmission. Sounds complicated but once you learn how to code and program it turns out to be pretty simple. This sounds like a challenging swap but not at all difficult.
