It seems daunting but it is actually quite straight forward.
Just take your time and it will be fine. Remember to run the USB cable through the firewall, this is the most fiddly part of the job but worth doing so you can code reads easily on the laptop. I used a Metal Coat hangar to push it through the hole. Are you installing dual cone intakes at the same time?

Take your time, if you have a garage that's much better then you won't be rushed by impending rain!.
Get some good lighting as it can be a bit dark in that part of the engine bay too. Some small tools & tiny watchmakers style screwdrivers etc are handy for getting the connectors out of the ECU blocks. There's thread on here somewhere where I showed with pics how to get the USB lead into the car in 2010 (JB3 at that time but same thing) Read this thread: www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=425672 Post 32 has pics for USB lead. |

Did you take the microfilter/cowl off to fit the DCIs?
If so, thats the main part of the installation anyway. Just remember the ECU is on the passenger side of the engine bay. Just be careful removing the ecu connectors and install the USB cable when the ECU has been disconnected as the ECU needs to be lifted out of the way as well as the plastic dividers. |

+1 The instructions and install guide are from the US and the ECU is on the opposite side of the car for LHD!!
So watch references to 'drivers side' etc and remember its backwards to our cars. Watch the connector pins - they stick under your finger nails easily - my ECU compartment has the blood stains to prove it! When you've done it once you wonder what all the fuss what about! |
