First Wash Melbourne Red....Look and Weep

Had her one week. 335i sport, HK, Nav, Xenon, Comfort, Assist, Apps, Tint.
Have done about 600km. Starting to let the engine open up a bit now. Sound is amazing and power delivery is instant and near linear. Just a joy to drive. Look forward to the end of the day and weekends now. Not a bad way to start the day either.

Will get out to the track in a couple of weeks.

I really liked the 18" sport line rims. I think they have a raw look to them and IMO one of the best looking BMW rims in a while. Hence why I have them on the car. Runflats have come a long way, and not a bad tire but a weak point of the car. Easy fix though.

I have a set of PS2's 235 40ZR18 on order going on the stock rims. It will give a little more tire and I'm sure some FUN grip. Will post a review when I get them on.

The wait is worth it boys.....I had your pain but mine is over SUCKERS!!!.....sorry that was mean canadian are supposed to be nice

Congrats! She's a beauty! Take care in washing her, Melbourne Red appears to be quite high maintenance after my first wash. Take a look at this if you haven't done so already:

Wow, Thanks. lots of good info there. Red and Black definetly hard colours to maintain, you know that going in.

BMW did a nice job with MR. I always wanted a red car, saw MR once and decided to pull the trigger. This one gets parked in a garage only, will only be washed and waxed by hand and hose for a while. Will go to a high end detail shop once a year if i find any imperfections is the paint.

Did some math (which hurts my brain thx) and gap will be too noticeable with with the 235/40 tire.

Changed the order to 245 40R18 super sports (PS2's were getting pricey with the larger size). This brings overall diameter very close to stock tire. Tire Rack says that size will get on the 8" wide stock rim......we'll see.

both are /40/...

Exactly what do these numbers mean? Sorry for my noob question!

On my E90, the gap between the arch and rear wheel is really small, but it's much greater on the front wheel??

I am not a tire guy. But the /40 is a percentage of the width. So the 245/40 has a wider overall diameter than the 235/40. The 235/40 was coming in 3/4 inch less diam than stock, likely noticeable, totally agree with you. The 245/40 is 1/3 inch less overall diam than the stock, thats getting fairly close.

The 245/40 is rated to go on an 8 to 9.5 inch width wheel. So the the 8" stock just gets in there. I'm kinda trusting Michelin and Tire Rack on this one. Neither have let me down as thus far......again we'll see

I think in Canada you have a choice between body colour or black side mirrors.

Why the wide section on an 8" rim? Are you after a softer feel with more tyre compliance and less feed back/less precision to the steering? What's wrong with the F30 road feel, to need a wide tire?

I know black interior is common with red exterior. But has anyone ever seen the red F30 with beige interior?

I liked the 397 wheel (stock 18" sport line). I did not want to get into a staggered set up. (this might have been a mistake). I want to ditch the narrow low rolling resistance RF all performance all season 225/45. Fairly narrow for the power of the N55.

Now tire sizing up from the 225/45.....235/40 is next. This brings the diameter of the tire down 3/4". So I thought go to 245/40 bring overall diameter close to stock. I realize now the rim is getting narrow.

I am open to getting new aftermarket wheels. I would go painted black. It's polarizing but I like the red/black look. I will stick with the 245/40R18 tire. I will have to find a black 18/8.5 wheel the will match the offset and bolt pattern. Assistance will be appreciated....:thump:

The question I have, can I go 18/8.5 all around. The chart below shows staggered setups that that stay 8"width in front. Again I don't want to go staggered. Will 18/8.5 work all the way around. I'm open to ideas here.

Styles 392, 393, 394, 395, 413, 414: 17x7.5 ET 37
Styles 396, 397, 415, 416: 18x8 ET 34
Style 398: 18x8 ET 34 and 18x8.5 ET 47
Style 401: 19x8 ET 36 and 19x8.5 ET 47
Styles 361, 404, 405: 20x8 ET 36 and 20x8.5 ET 47
