08 M Sport Service Key?

Hi, I recently bought a nice (mid 08) M sport edition saloon. My friend has a similar 3 series and said I should have a service key in the glove box. It looks like I have the space/fitting for it on the R/H side of the glovebox. But should there have been one? and how crucial is it not to have one if there should be one there?

If it is an LCI I believe the service key was also deleted. I have a 2009 335i and do not have one. I have comfort access so I am not sure if that plays into it or not.

Also before you start another thread, if you haven't already, the rechargeable glove box flashlight was also no longer included in the LCI's.
