less restrictive filter (pipercross panel filter) and full exhaust would be next steps

Easy Gains:

Upgraded Panel Filter
Full Exhaust System
Tweak the map

Going that bit further,

You could look at bigger injectors, 330d intake system if it fits. More map tweaking

I have the 177 320d and have installed a p torque remap, an upgraded intercooler from Forge motorsport, hartge exhaust, pipercross panel filter and best of all a quaife lsd which propels the car from standstill much, much more effectively and massively improves all round grip especially round bends. im not bothering with larger injectors etc as it would involved costly mapping sessions which may or may not actually work. I did have a new turbo fitted, the garrett equivalent to the standard but this was more to do with the old one being quite worn when we took it off and inspected it ( i had done 90k miles by this point).

I got the exhaust and quiafe lsd from Birds in London, thoroughly good chaps who know their stuff and do quality work

Is the 224bhp figure in your signature correct? I have a P-Torque map at 221bhp and have made no hardware modifications at all.
The LSD will certainly help but I was under the impression that it's the sort of mod you do to a 335i pushing 400hp. Traction issues at 220hp aren't so much a problem when you consider what the chassis is capable of.

Well its easy to see why you would think that as the 335i & d's owners seem to be buy the quiafe more than smaller engined models but lsd's are far more than just preventing wheelspin. With it fitted it feels like its on rails around bends even at slower speeds, and the way it locks into the road when launching from standstill is incredible. best mod ive done

Firstly it depends how aggressive the map is on your car, mine could've been more than it is, also specific cars will vary, you might have a more powerful car than me to start with ? But anyway yes the 224 figure is correct, it was achieved on rolling road at p torque. The exhaust, filter and I.C wont actually add that much power on a cold day (as per the weather when mine was rolling roaded) but in the summer (on a hot day) they will maintain that level of power where cars with std filter, exhaust and intercooler would be more restricted and hence less power.

Ultimately the figures mean nothing in the real world, its how you feel about your car, personally i love the way mine drives - the balance, grip and style suit me

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate that there's more to the LSD than just traction. Quite an expensive modification though.

I was expecting to see larger power gains from the exhaust. Does it sound any different?

So hypothetically speaking, would your 320d now be quicker than a stock 330d given the fact the 330d weighs more?

no change even though there is one less silencer on the Hartge system, i guess the advantages are thats its slightly lighter, more free flowing and personally, I happen to like the Hartge embossed chrome pipes ! (yes i know im sad!)

From experience i'd say its very very close in straight line performance to an unmodified 330d, however mine would probably have an edge in twisty lanes due to less weight and the lsd.

I appreciate power is king but i do love the fact that my 320d is producing more torque than a standard M3 ! (324 vs 295!)

How is the delivery and response? Have you driven a 330d for comparison? We have an E46 330d and it seems a lot smoother.
