Bent 225-m rims - e93

Hey everyone,

Pretty new to the forum, been creeping around for a few month to learn about the e93's. I actually purchased one from a BMW dealer a couple of months ago, and took it in for service for the first time last week. Come to find out, they said the rear rims are bent, and the tires are pretty much gone. I found out that the person who had the car before me also had an issue with the rims, and now again with less than 9.5k miles, the rears are bent again.

I did some research on this forum, as well as online, and it seems that the 225-m sport rims with the RFT's are susceptible to being bent a lot easier than the others. I told the advisor today that when I had my e46 M3, I drove in DC all the time on horrible roads and never had an issue.

Any way, does anyone have any experience with this issue with these rims? Any help would be appreciated. The service manager is calling customer support to see if they'll replace, and I'll call tomorrow as well to let them know of the situation.

19" Style 225M rims are manufactured by Campagnolo, and are known for cracking issues. 19" Style 230 are stronger (and manufactured by BBS).

Thanks for the info, hopefully BMW works with owners to resolve these issues. I found a bunch of articles that show they actually stopped selling the 225-m rims with the RFT's in the UK for this issue.

Love those 225's but I chose against them seeing they were cracking all over Europe(True Story) Don't know if it's the 19er mixed with the run craps or just an issue with the rim style it's self for BMW stopped issuing them here last year sometime....You might be aware but if not pretty damn interesting no??

Yup, I told the service manager that also. Hopefully Customer Care helps out. I've had a BMW for over 12 years, and this is the first time I've had a rim crack... kind of disappointed.

225Ms are manufactured by Cromodora not Campagnoloand the cracking issue only seems to occur with RFT tires.

You are right about Cromodora being the manufacturer (I mixed up both italian rim makers!).

if 230s are stronger then your rims, buy new rims! lol
i cracked both rear 230s in no time at all. our roads are pretty good too. Ive had many cars with multiple sets of wheels, never bent or cracked a single one

+1 my 230s cracked as well on my '07. I think it's not as common on the newer 230s though.

@Martinmaxx, that's quite alright haha! I've got these magnesium lightweight wheels by Speedline in Italy on my DB7 which are the worst they chip if you even breathe on them...

You can see them in the photo - massive pain in the arse.
