Limp Mode for the first time today
Not freaked out but I wanted to share my data and experience if it helps anyone else - it seems like what happened to me has happened to a few people already. I've had zero signs of a faulty fuel pump - my car fires up straight away and has never stuttered.
I was driving home on the highway today from a short road trip yesterday, slowing down from 80mph for a toll lane...BINNNNG! Look down and there is the CEL (engine half filled/half dark icon). Car ran fine (no sputtering, oddness etc) - simply reduced power. Some relevant or perhaps irrelevant data : My car is a November build 335i. My fuel pump has been perfect (knock on wood) from day one - not a single symptom or worry about it. Car fires up from cold in less than 1 second every time. I have a Proceede - I used v1.4 for 2 months, and just updated to v.1.45 this past weekend. The car is stock beyond the Proceede. I had been cruising at 80mph for around 45 minutes, varying perhaps 5mph +/- Oil temp remained at a constant 240 the entire time, before and after the CEL. Half tank of gas when it happened. 88 degrees outside when it happened. AC on, cruising in 6th gear. Before my trip I added 1/2 a bottle of Redline S-1 injector cleaner to a full tank of gas. I do this about every 3,000 miles with all my cars. Have run S-1 in the 335i before with no issues. I only use Chevron 93 Octane gas in the car - never have used anything else. The happy ending is that when I made it home (about 20 minutes after the CEL went off), I was able to clear the code simply by shutting the car off and restarting it. I had my Creader at the ready but there were no stored error codes. I'm keeping the Creader in the car for the next time (if there is one) it happens. My first thought was that it was a misfire due to the injector cleaner perhaps. My Z3 M Coupe would stutter a bit on startup when running the cleaner for a tank of gas, so a bit of oddness or a misfire isn't unexpected I guess while running the stuff. My second thought was that it was the car not hitting a boost target was all. The car fan perfect before and after it happened (save for the reduced power), but I'm uncertain that this was it and there were not stored codes to indicate this. I'll keep an eye on it and will check the codes (if any are thrown) the next time it goes off. Of course I hope there isn't a next time. Like I said though, not freaked out at all. No idea what caused it but I have a hard time believing that it has anything to do with the Proceede. Could be a simple as a poor tank of summer gas and a misfire or three triggering the nanny. Hope this helps anyone else that has this occur to their beloved 335i. |

Same exact thing happened to me one time on 5/18/07. After shutting it off and restarting, it returned back to normal, and so far, it's never returned in the past 4 weeks...my PROcede 335i has been running perfectly since.
Who knows what exact cause was, but it didn't have anything to do with the PROcede.

Heh - yours was the first post I read on the subject when I got home.
Just washed her and went for a spin - no problems. All is well. |

Glad to hear that; it should be fine now...hopefully, it will never return (that goes for you and I, and everyone else who experienced this).

Should also mention the mileage on the car - when it happened, the car had 3,070 miles on it. Not so much as a hiccup in the first 3K.

Wow, I just ran into the same problem tonight. Just crusing at 45 mph, on the cel phone, I look down and see the dreaded limp mode indicator. Nothing has changed recently. Running proceded v 1.45 now for like 2 months. I have 2200 Miles. Pulled over, turned the car off and started it and everything was fine.
Oil temp at 235, outside temp at 86. I wonder what causes these random events.

Chalk me up too. Same exact thing just happened to me like a week ago. Outside temp was about 89 degrees and I was just city cruising at anywhere from 35-50 mph. I believe the a/c was on that day. In the previous 8000 miles, no symptoms of the fuel pump curse except for an occasional slight variance(100-200 rpm) in revs while idling. My car is an October build. Only mod is procede v1.45 for about two months, everything else is bone stock.

Just out of curiosity...
Has anyone been kicked into limp mode running v1.4? I ran v1.4 for 2 months, and have been running v1.45 for 3 days (I said weekend but it was actually Tuesday night, so about 200 miles on v1.45 in total so far) |

I heard many of those "octane boosters" and "injector cleaners" do more harm than good to a modern engine. Perhaps they even exacerbate issues with the HPFP...

Yes, but again, it's NOT caused by PROcede...it's the car.

Not really. I ran with Shiv's XEDE for 4 months...no problems. I ran with the PROcede for 1 month...no problems until 1 day, it happened 1 time. It just so happens that after 9k mi. (with the PROcede on), my car strangely went into limp mode 1 time while cruising on the hwy. at 65mph while in M6 gear. Now, so far in 4 weeks it hasn't returned; my PROcede 335i is running perfectly. I don't think it's a coincidence at all; other non-PROcede cars have experienced the same strange anomaly.

So has this happened to anyone that didn't have Xede or Procede?

Correct. Mine did it twice in one day. Ended up getting 2 02 sensors replaced.
