Offsets? ET? What the Hell..

It seems to me that there are many users confused about the same thing as I am with all these "Will this fit???" threads popping up every where recently..

So Ive been lurking around in this section of the forums hoping to get some sort of and understanding as to how ET, offsetting, and the use of spacers works when looking into wheel selection. Im pretty mechanically inclined and cant for the LIFE of me figure how to to calculate what size spacers, with ET, or size tire, etc, etc, works on our cars when putting a package together?!

Is there any simplified equation or in my case ENGLISH models to figuring this kind of stuff out? (looking into some different wheels for the upcoming summer season and need to figure it out without spending the $$$ only to find that it doesnt work.) Thumbs up to anyone who can shed some light on the matter!!

We mod our cars too much too have a solid answer....are you gonna run stock suspension? Oh wait is it sport? Is it xi, do your drive like a nanny or bottom out springs?

Also combine that with tire choice and it gets even more convoluted. Your best bet is to just search for a setup like yours or be the guinea pig.

i get the whole trial and error aspect, sounds like the only real way to find out but I, like many here arent willing to buy and sell to find what works...

what im curious about is how someone who posts something along the lines of "i have a 19x10 with a et40 will it fit?" and the answer is no. does the offset issue change on a flat faced staggered setup versus a Lipped wheel setup since the face of the wheel is inset on the wheel? what factors go into account is what im curious about

No, 19x10 ET40 has the same fitment regardless of the look of the wheel.

Offset is the distance from the hub to the centerline of the wheel in mm.

E.g the difference between two wheel, lets say 19x10 ET40 and 19x10 ET35, is 5mm. And since the ET35 wheel has a 5mm less distance between the hub and centerline, is will be 5mm more aggressive/stick 5mm more out than the ET40 wheel.
