TPMS problem - stems too short

I am in the process of moving from the stock 17" wheels on my 335i xDrive to 19" wheels (just bought these: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=665470) and when I went to have everything installed last night, the installer said that the new aftermarket TPMS sensors wouldn't work. He said that the stems were too short to work with the 19" wheel.

I bought the TPMS sensors from Tirerack at the same time that I purchased my new tires (Michelin Pilot Super Sports), so I am not sure why they wouldn't work.

Does anybody know what specific length the stems need to be? The packing slip said that mine were 43MM long.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. I also have sent off an e-mail to Gary at Tirerack.

Thanks,

George

If anyone knows about this or has had the same issue, please post.

This the first I can recalling hearing of a longer stem being needed in a BMW OEM E90/E92 wheel.

Thanks Gary.

In case the link isn't working, these are OEM wheels, Style 230.

After looking at the video on how to install the TPMS modules on the Tire/Wheel forum (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=666183) I decided to try this myself and see if the installer was really right.

When I insert the valve stem through the hole (after carefully connecting the valve stem to the Torx valve screw and sensor), there isn't enough thread available on the valve stem to connect the valve stem nut. I even tried just putting the valve stem through by itself and I still can't thread the valve stem nut onto the valve stem.

Unless this is a case of user error (still not ready to say it isn't), looks like there really might be an issue.

230 wheels call for a specific longer valve, P/N 36136775937. Checked boxes, no length listed.

I had emailed tischer before ordering, just waiting on tires now

Leroi,

Thanks for the help.

Who is tischer? Where did you get the longer valve stems?

When I talked to Gary earlier today, he said that he didn't have any longer valve stems.

Ive seen it on these wheels. As I recall they have a really deep valve hole, almost like the sealing surface is on the inner part of the barrel. The regular valve stems will not work on these. I believe valve 36136775937 is the correct one for front and rear. I have only seen this on the 19" wheels.
