High mileage 325d

Hi guys just after some quick advice. I am looking at a high mileage 127k 325d. But it is still on its original clutch and turbo. Should this be a concern.

How often has it been serviced / oil changed? Any unusual whining from the engine or severe turbo lags?
Have you driven the car? what is the clutch operation like?

If it has had regular oil changes and the car is generally well looked after I don't think the turbo should be a problem. It may be worth listening for whines and/or any other unusal noises.

Regarding the clutch:- if the bite is ok and the car changes through gears OK and the general clutch operation is OK (320D manuals are known for clutch judder but don't think this is an issue on the 325D) then I wouldn't really worry too much about it.

Obviously the condition of these components may well not comparable to a 5k car but thats just how it is with high milers. Infact, if the car has spend most its life being driven on the motorway, then those components may well have actually seen less wear than on a stop start car with 50,000 miles.

Garage List
Get a quote for a new clutch and turbo. Keep that figure in mind when negotioating the deal for the car. Point it out to the seller.

Then try and have that amount in asavings should the need arise to change either.

My brothers 335d is still on the original turbos at 126k miles.

depends on year/spec? cheapest ones available on ebay are 9k

i wouldnt worry about the turbo/clutch as long as it looks like the cars been looked after (history/general cond) niether should be an issue

Age, spec, model, extras, how much aftermarket non genuine mods, colour, condition will all influence the price so hard to tell by just mileage and model.

My 330d had 180k+ when I traded it in, never had a replacement clutch or a new turbo and there was no reason to think that either was due.

You'll probably be able to buy that at a good price as high mileage kills the value of BMWs,

Must be worth 7k least?

Clutch and blower life impossible to estimate without in depth history (you knew the owner etc)
Turbo life largely depends upon oil servicing history, clutch life - well down to driver and how long it lived on the motorway.
Very few repmobiles want for either short of 100k in my experience.

I would keep looking, you will regret not buying a car with all the toys later.
And they are generally not much more expensive and easier to resell.
