Rear rubbing with 255/35-19 and Tein S springs VMR V701's
So i got a killer deal locally on some lightly used V701's. They are ET 33 in the rear with 255/35-19's. I am on Tein S springs, 07 335I. Not sure if its rubbing the side or just the top of the tire hitting the wells since its taller then recommended 30 series? It barely rubs with me and my gf in the car when the rear hits bumps while driving, i can imagine it would sound horrible with 2 people in the back seats. So my questions,
1. Am i rubbing on the side of tire/fender wells (car is not rolled fenders)? 2. Am i rubbing on the top of the tire where it would hit the plastic wells? 3. Do i need to buy new rear tires in like a 255 or 265 30 to fix this or would a roll fix my problem? Thanks Last edited by badass1g; 03-23-2012 at 10:28 PM.. |

Often times when rubbing there will be some rubber/black marks left on the fender lip, look up inside there to see, then a roll should take care of it.

I had the same problem on my last e90. I was rubbing on the felt fender liner. Put your hand in there a feel for a smooth spot just past the actual fender lip.

Looks like its only rubbing on the pass side and its like at the rear of the fender close to the rear bumper. Is that where these usually rub at? Drivers side hasnt rubbed yet.

Tire marks would e the dead giveaway as to we're your rubbing. I know with my 265/30 I rub on the felt liner just inside the fender lip. Well I did run there till it wore through the whole felt liner.

dont spend money on new tires. there are many easy fixes for rubbing issues. yours aren't bad at all.
First get under there with a razor blade or box cutter and cut some of the fender liner out. i would say cut an arc about 2-3 inches above the fender lip. the liner is like a thin cardboard paper type material and cuts easily. 2nd thing u can do by yourself is relocate the bumper tab. the tab where the rear bumper attaches to the fender is most likely what you hear rubbing. u can drill a new hole an inch or 2 closer to the rear of the car along that seem where the bumper meets the rear quarter pannel. just move the bolt back there then cut out the old bumper tab. if this doesn't solve your problem find a local with a fender roller and some skill. u can even do this yourself if u can find one to rent. watch some videos online and make sure u heat the fender with a blow dryer or heat gun. u can get atleast another 1/2 inch of clearence without any differenece in the look of the fender. hope this helps |
