Is this a BMW thing or do enthusiasts of other makes such as Honda, Lexus, etc, debadge their vehicles? I ask because I've never seen other makes being debadged, other than Bimmers. Just curious if it's a BMW thing.

I did it for a cleaner look and also since I don't feel like having my possessions tagged and displayed to the rest of the motorists.
As a bonus I also found out nobody hunts after me trying to race after debadging. |

Others de-badge and over-badge (bagde whores). It's kinda funny cause I have a Vette also and have the same conversations in the other forum too.
I'm one for the debadged look, as stated above clean look and ease of detailing. |

Lots of cars in Europe come without badges. I have seen many BMWs, Mercs, Audis, etc., that do not have badges from the factory.

Started in Europe so people couldn't tell if you had (just for an example) either an M3 or a 318.

Although some just do it to make the ride look cleaner.

Seems like the general consensus is for a cleaner look and ease of detailing. Me, I'm more of a leave things as they come from factory kind of guy, at my stage in life. Back in my 20s, I was all about changing things on my car and tricking them out. Damn, I'm getting old. LOL

That is what I was thinking all along and thus why I asked. To me, it seemed like people were perhaps "ashamed" of only having a "cheaper" model and thus debadged them in order to project having a higher end model. Which would be stupid or just someone with an inferiority complex, if that was the case.

It makes it so much easier to clean, and I like the clean look without it.
Nobody cares as much as we think they do about the model of our cars, except people who want to "judge" a lesser model.. and they're not the type I care about keeping happy.

My personal opinion when I see a de-badged car is that the person is trying to make their lesser optioned out car look like they spent more money. Can you Honestly tell me if you purchased a fully loaded M3 or M5 you would go around the whole car and take off every "M" symbol to make it look "cleaner"? HELL NO!
If you spent 80 grand on a Cadillac CTS-V with a 560+ horsepower motor, would you take off that badge so someone might think you are driving the 35k 6 cylinder version? Again, I don't think so. If someone is that worried about being judged for spending money on a car, well then, go buy a KIA or a Hyndai, they are cheap, reliable and really nice on the inside. Lets face it, when you by a BMW, you are JUDGED by driving ANY model around. People just treat you different when you pull up in one. Hell, how many car companies refuse to even SELL a service manual for a car? One of the reasons for BMW is to maintain quality control on the cars and the vast majority of the people that buy them, pay the HIGH prices to keep them maintained properly. I don't see alot of BMWs in a Pep Boys very often... Again, just one persons opinion. |
