BT Cable “Available Actual Values” ??
Hi,
I would like to know how many and what, “Actual Values” are available to datalog with the BT Cable, (335i MSD81) before I buy. Could not find the info on their website, so e-mailed BT and asked for a list, their reply, “the tool includes all of the same values as the BMW factory tool, along with several others”, really really helpful answer !! I have downloaded the software, but unless you have the cable and it is connected, you cannot access the list. Please could somebody with 335i with MSD81 DME, please do some screenshots of the list of “Values” on the ““Available Actual Values” tab (may need a few shots) believe it starts with: Battery Voltage Engine Speed Speed etc, etc. I realise it will take some time, but would be very grateful if someone could help. Michael. |

I don't know the answer but there will be dozens - I have the Torque app which is free and that has about 30 odd, fuel sensors, different air temps, voltage across different areas etc as well as drive cycle status like cat being ready

These are the Standard Displays on the free app, there are loads more though so BT will have hundreds!

Mike,
The BT has literally hundreds, I'll try and get a screen shot or something for you. Honestly there's more analogue stuff to view than you would ever think possible for a mere petrol engine! I thought i'd plugged into the space shuttle engine bay by accident... But there are some useful ones it doesn't cater for, for example if you have adaptive xenons (like me) it doesn't cover that footwell module and it can't see or activate the auto-levelling functions or the left/right and turning beam functions. This caused me grief recently when trying to fault find the self levelling after replacing the front dampers, any basic autologic set can see the levelling transducer output, but not the BT unfortunately! BT told me there is no plans to add these functions. Last edited by doughboy; 03-23-2012 at 05:38 AM.. |

Thanks for that, gives some idea of what to expect. Couldn't believe the answer I got from BT, obviously got too much money, and don't care about potential sales. Best wishes, M. |

"The BT has literally hundreds, I'll try and get a screen shot or something for you". That would be a great help. Only engine data required at the moment, so the shortcomings you mention should not be a problem. Glad there are lots & lots of values, may need some obscure ones. How many values can you log at once ?? (something else their blurp doesn't tell you). Best wishes, Michael. |

If you're just wanting to pull that data off and log it then it might be worth looking at that Torque app - if you're wanting to fiddle/reset any of them obviously you'd need the BT (although Torque will find and delete shadow and confirmed fault codes too) It's a free alternative until you've had a look and understood where you are with the info you're hoping to get?

Got screen shots from an MSD80 335I, but it may be easier if you pm me an email address and I'll send them to you. It's like 15-20 screenshots.
In terms of how many values you can log at once I think is around 10-12. The BT app is a bit heavy when logging so you need a decent spec laptop.

When I use the BT tool on my 330d I find most of the actual values are in German so it's hard to know what ur looking at!
Does anyone else find this and is there any way around it? |

Coding is very limited, so this shouldn't be the main reason to buy this. I bought the pro cable because of the unlimited VINs and to retain a bit of value in the cable, but I'm a bit disappointed in terms of value for money. BT does the basics in terms of code reading and servicing resets and activations, but they don't seem to invest much in improving this or add new features.
