i.e., could you make an appointment with the dealer (so they tell you when a fuel pump arrives) and then keep your car and just accept that it's going to be slower for a while?

I'm not asking if this is a good idea -- I'm asking if it's technically feasible. It seems that the turbos are switched off the your car simply goes slower, but no other damage will occur. Is that correct?

more or less correct, anyway - would U like to drive a car which can stop moving anytime? Calling a cab and a tow car from the dealer, maybe in the mid of nite, maybe in the mid of nowhere? LOL

If it's 'failed' you won't get to far.
Mine failed and the car took 20 seconds to climb 500 rpms.

It was a long drive home from downtown LA at 11pm.....

Ah okay... so when the pump fails, it's not like just having a ~225 HP normally aspirated engine. I had read a post before that implied something like that.

Also, I wonder if there is a threshold you're "clear" of the fuel pump problem. I'm sure there's been a poll on it in the past... I'll search sometime for that, and post a poll if not.

No, it hasn't failed. But I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that it will at some point. Also maybe these questions will help others with similar problems.

They fail in various stages of severity. Mine is doing the extended crank thing more often, but as long as it doesn't fail, im waiting to see if they come out with a better pump, etc. I was just looking at a HPF today. Thought what an interesting piece of $1300 machinery. LOL.

IT was said, that if you got 5,000 miles on the car, you were in the clear.

Guess what ? Mine failed at 5,489 miles.

It was in the shop for 7 weeks.

got it back at 5pm last night.

Car seems even more powerful than the car was before.
BUT, I do feel some spuratic throttle responses though.
So, we'll see what happens.

did the dealer give you a free tank of gas? this happened to me.. they put shitty gas in it... car didnt drive good until a few tanks later.

No, i had 1/2 tank when i came in...and when i got it out...i had a little less than 1/4...my guess is they spilled it or something...or let it idle, because my mileage only went up 10 or so from test drives..


I ran the gas down to almost empty then filled it up...im on the 2nd tank now and it's getting better...peeling out and fishtailing like before....
