The plasti c cover cap will pop off with a little gentle persuasion, then just a socket onto the bolt and hey presto, simples, did the same a year ago

Disconnect the battery before removing the seats and don't reconnect until the new ones are in and connected.

If you don't do that then you'll trigger an airbag fault warning light which you will need to have reset by a dealer or someone with the appropriate kit.

you wont trigger a warning light unless you turn the ignition on with no airbag connected

Sorry to have the

But a question comes to mind:

Does that mean you could disconnect any airbag connector ie the one behind the steering wheel airbag, or the ones under the seat - with the ignition off, replace the connectors, then turn the ignition on and it would trigger no lights/warnings..?

To OP, Bring the chair in the forward direction (to max).
Use screwdriver to remove the C cover. It is not that easy.
There are three plastic clips retaining it. Use the middle one clip of C cover to remove it.
Approach it from the bottom (middle clip) and with screwdriver, push it in (toward the chair) and up.

Do not try from any other place, otherwise you may break one of the clips.

You must have T50 to remove your seats.

Always, Always disconnect the battery, unless you have proper equipment to reset airbag lights.

No disrespect to anybody, but when you play with airbags, especially on steering wheel, it is ALWAYS recommended to disconnect the barrty.

What if battery is connect and your triggered airbag?

And if you do not disconnect the battery, and try to fiddle with passenger seat, you can trigger airbag light (even if car is turned off but key is in the ignition), especially if you kneel on passenger seat which may break co-driver occupancy sensor mat.

you cant trigger a light unless the car is turned on. only way it will come on is if you make a mistake with a connection and turn the car on, but that will happen regardless of battery

So disconnecting battery is the same as not switching the car on at the ignition?

Mate, you can trigger it and I am talking about personal experience.
My mate was kneelin on passenger seat and broke the occupancy sensor mat, and airbag light came up.
Car was switched off, but key was in, and radio was on.

Exactly, why risking when you can avoid it.
I have seen somebody here, who fiddled with his seats without disconnecting the battery, and later he had to look for somebody to reset. Ended up paying £40 to reset it at his local indi.

So 5 sec V/S resetting airbag light. you guys decide....

that's exactly what we're trying to assess here.. is there a risk associated?

In order to have the radio on, you need to have the ignition on. Which to me answers the question.

I'm inclined to the above. It seems to me from all the reading I have done (and Makkan00 - a lot of it you have contributed to) that the risk is associated with either the ignition or the engine ON. With both of those factors set to NOT or OFF I believe i'ts the same as having your battery dc'd.

I'd be enlightened if someone else could confirm this.

You can have your radio / cd on without the iginition on. Try it, and it stays on for approx 20 minutes and will switch off automatically.

when the key is in/radio is on the air bag controller is also on that was why the light was triggered. (not the case with all cars but is with the e90)
