Brake Pad warning

Morning guys,

A couple of weeks ago, my iDrive gave the following error:

What is strange, my front pads were replaced 2k miles ago along with the discs. The rear pads, when i checked a week before this error, were showing 10k remaining.

When you go into the service info menu, i get this

This shows -- remaining miles for both front and rear!

The car has a bmw warranty, and the dealer i used have said that the rear brake pads have triggered this, but they still have about 4mm remaining which they suggest will last another few thousand miles.

They have said i shouldn't change the pads yet, but they can't stop this error coming up every time i start the car!

Is it normal for it to show no distance remaining for front pads when it's only the rears that need changing? I found one other user with a similar error on another forum and he said it was an error with the OBC that his dealer reset.

Any ideas? I think the BMW dealer's suggestion of having to have that warning and a light on my dash for thousands of miles is ludicrous!

Thanks,

Tom.

I had the same issue on my 335i. Brake pads were only about 8k old and were showing that they needed replacing. When I remove the wheel to check, I noticed they were fine with plenty of material left on them.

I have a Bavarian Tech cable so I just adjusted the miles remaining to change using my laptop.

So BMW should be able to do this really rather than just leaving it!

Thanks for the input.

Leave it for dealer to deal with it especially if it is under warranty.
Take it back to them and ask them to sort it for you.

It appears your brake pad sensors (1 front and 1 rear) are either broken or not installed properly.

If its under warranty have the dealer replace the rear pads and see if it takes care of front problem too.

My pads are down to around 4mm at rear also and still shows 12k miles on i drive, but my MOT station suggests i change them now.. £170 fitted by dealer (£85 for the pad kit)

If mine had the errors up on i drive i would prob just go and get them changed now TBH

Rear pads seem to wear loads more than front?

Last mot 5000 miles ago rears were 11mm
